Redondo 11.11.17

Launched at 9am expecting to meet a buddy who was supposed to bring water but buddy no-show.

Made it to the artificial reef for rockfish but nothing doing so headed out to the Palwan wreck for some bass and lings but again, nothing doing. Loaded up on macks and bonitas while i was there and headed back in along the beach for some halis but.....no takers.

After 7 hrs without water, headed back in to Ruby's to re-hydrate and grab a big, fat, greasy burger. Found out the burger was free for veterans in honor of veterans day and all of a suden the burger tasted awesome!

Launched again at 6pm with 3 hoops and didnt get my first keeper til 8 pm but after that, was averaging 4 shorts per pull and 1 keeper per set. Limited out on bugs along the outside of the wall but it was very hard work. Finished at a little after midnight after 16 hours and about 20 logged miles on the yak, according the my elite 7 ti.

My first report, second time out on my 2017 outback, and first lobsters of the season.

Lobster hooping on saturday, basketball hooping on sunday. Legs are fried!!!

Nice report and above all thank you for your service. Hope you had a good Veterans day

Semper Fi-shing 11-13-2017 12:18 PM

Alot of it was drifting and fighting against the drift is hard work. Bonitas are deceptively fast

aftahour 11-13-2017 01:13 PM

Great report. How much was parking?

jhernandez 11-13-2017 02:23 PM

Tagging along

been wanting to try Redondo for a while now, let me know if your ever looking for someone to tag along with you

Semper Fi-shing 11-13-2017 02:35 PM

Parking was free after 11pm...the attendants leave and the gates open up

Semper Fi-shing 11-13-2017 02:39 PM

I plan on going there again after work on friday. Not looking forward to the 2 hr drive though and the 1 hr and 10 minute drive coming back but luckily the Mcdonalds on 190th and Artesia is open 24 hrs to load up on coffee before driving home

Semper Fi-shing 11-13-2017 02:51 PM

I believe parking is usually 2 dollars an hr up to 20$ max. FYI posted sign on the small craft barge says that it will be removed after dec 17 for maintenance and repair.

TheBentRod 11-13-2017 03:32 PM

Impressive

Now, that is hard core! Sounds like a great way to spend the afternoon and evening. Coming in, getting a burger and recharging is an awesome idea if the conditions cooperate.

Thank you for your service.

Your enthusiasm comes thru....

That kind of enthusiasm has come and gone for us long ago. It's nice to see that your so fired up! Driving for hours and all day and all nighters are a thing of the past for us... were just interested in instant results now a days...and what's for lunch! But we still fish hard every week!

Redondos a great place to fish as long as you can launch off of the dock...otherwise it's a real pain. You can catch fish there pretty much all year round as long as your reasonable in what you want to catch. If you know where to look you might be surprised what you can catch there.

...not sure it's worth a 2 hour drive though...that's INSANE!

DanaPT 11-13-2017 05:28 PM

No guts no glory.

Way to stick with It!

:notworthy:

I out there hooping that night too, I kept asking my buddy "wonder how that guy is doing" lol good work

kwest10 11-13-2017 11:23 PM

That’s moto right there devil dog.
If you’re coming up from Pendleton, why not O-side, Dana Point or Long Beach? Save you a few hours.

Semper Fi-shing 11-14-2017 12:36 AM

Yeah, my personal best happens to be a 27 lb halibut last by shear dumb luck more than skill but hey, "Even monkeys fall off trees"

Would love to try o-side or pendleton after my next outing as a matter of fact. Would love to take you up and try new places than what im familiar with.

TheBentRod 11-14-2017 08:18 AM

Tony, I agree. We should try to get that enthusiasm back!:luxhello:

I honestly think it has something to do with the heavy kayaks and gear we have to bring along.

I also think after the years of YT and WSB bites going off the chain, we were spoiled.

There was also a dude on a SUP hauling ass back and forth. Dude had two nice ones by the time me and a friend left. He would check on them and come back into the dock to chill. lol

I did ok but I was more than a mile out. Sounds like the ticket that night was to not go too far.

Semper Fi-shing 11-14-2017 10:53 AM

Yeah i saw that sup guy too when i came in after midnight. How long did u guys stay out? I was thinking about heading out to the ridge also but i wasnt sure if my buouy line was long enough. I had my livewell xl with me but didnt think to ask u about the trade. Was kinda out of it with lack of water. Had to throw two keepers back cuz i didnt want to go over my limit.

There's a few of us noobs here that are looking to synch up. Always good to have another set of eyes out there. I'm trying to get out to LBC area this Sunday.

We came in early at 10 pm. My friend was being a good Samaritan and tried to pick up a floating beer can from the water. Over reached and fell in. So it was a bit cold since he was wet.

I threw my two legals back. I didn't get enough for my family of 4. I need at least 3 good size ones. So I let them live for another day.

Let me know about the livewell. Not in rush but since it fits in my PA nicely, I want one lol

lol "good Samaritan"

Semper Fi-shing 11-14-2017 01:52 PM

Yeah good principle to live by. "Limit your kill, dont kill your limit" That'll teach him to be a good samaritan. Next time tell him its worth reaching for if its an unopened can. Lol

carbonbass 11-14-2017 03:10 PM

how big were the bonito?

Semper Fi-shing 11-14-2017 03:58 PM

Bonitas were couple lbs

Yea I've ran in to that dude a lot this year. Crazy kofo he was loading up his truck with I arrived back at the launch.

Aquaholix 11-15-2017 07:14 AM

Always a great day on the water. Good times & good catch!

Semper Fi-shing 11-16-2017 10:45 AM

I want to take a stab at hooping oceanside next week if anyone can help with a bit of info such as where to launch, how much rope i need, etc. Or perhaps if i can tag along with someone. Always nice to try new places. Otherwise, i might try Marina Del Rey. Its been good for me in the past but havent been there lately so definately want to take a stab at it again
