Team North County Crew at it again

Another North County home guard. On the water at 6:00 and off at 10:00, Perfect conditions upon arriving at the location. Flat calm waters, 73 degrees and bait balls in every direction. Threw a flat fall at the balls for no luck. Towed a mac around for a couple of hours and at 9:00 she was on.

30 lbs - 42" to fork.

WTG Curtis! The water looked amazing. The surf didn't look to bad, at least in the pics. Way to represent!

North side of the outlet jetty.

She looks a little thin because I gutted her on the water.

Carlsbad Yellowtail

Great job. Looked like he was going to pull you all the way into the power plant. You will probably have some company next time out. Ha. Nice fish by the way.

Congrats on the Nice Yellowtail. As slow as its been for a few weeks now, it's good to see some being landed.

Awesome fish and video!

As a relative newbie to catching/losing Yellowtail or other fish of this size, what am I supposed to do when the head shake/jerking happens? Should I be pulling harder or easing off and letting it run? I lost a fish at the weekend, snapped off my 65lb braid ( and I was using 40lb fluoro leader)

When a fish is pulling, shaking let it do it's thing. If he wants to run let it run. Once it slows down and you can lift the rod that's when you get back all you can until he pulls again. When I feel the tension getting stronger I allow the fish to "drag" me to wear him out a little. Once he lets up then it's my turn to put on the pressure. You can see me work this technique in the video several times.

Be patient, don't over stress your gear or yourself. Let this fish play a little and then put it to him when he gives you the opportunity. Patience is the key on the kayak. You are not fighting elbow to elbow with other anglers so no need to horse them in. Give it time and enjoy the ride.:reel:
