PA 12 and Outback new option

You can swap out the "tackle management" for the rec bucket for $20 on the PA 12 center hatch. You can also replace the round 8" on the Outback with the rec hatch, add the bucket, hardware and free install for $120 :D

Could you make it fit a revo, or is there some super secret squirrel stuff in the works worth waiting for?

wade 08-24-2012 05:42 PM

Nice 1 Hobie!, I'll take 1 please...

fishingfiend 08-24-2012 05:58 PM

Very interested in the conversion of the center hatch on the Outback. Would the PA tackle system still work on an outback? ie. the fold out trays.

Is the deep bucket actually sturdy, because the one for the Outback is too flimsy when you put some weight in there.

jorluivil 08-24-2012 06:01 PM

Holy crap..... a few weeks ago I was talking to the boys about doing something like this on my outback. Does an authorized retailer need to do the work in order to keep the hull warranty active or can this be done as a DIY job?

Iceman 08-24-2012 06:23 PM

This would not fit the Revo, the tackle management could be added to the Outback and this box could be loaded down with lead. Angles=structural strength. You could install yourself. Warranty in tact

I have the hatches/ tackle management racks and the buckets in stock.

fishingfiend 08-24-2012 06:43 PM

I will soon have a little less PA envy! :D Great post, I'll be coming in for parts when I can get down that way.

JNAST13ST 08-24-2012 07:12 PM

This is for the the front hatch right?
Dumb question?

inbx3 08-24-2012 07:48 PM

Why install yourself? It says free install.

dc1983 08-24-2012 08:07 PM

Interested!!! What are the dimensions of the replacement hatch for the outback?

wooooord

roadx 08-25-2012 07:17 AM

dimensions please, also i *think everyone is curious if the lip on the new bucket is sturdy enough not to drop through the open when it has a lot of weight in it. the outback deep bucket can be PITA.

Matar 08-25-2012 11:45 AM

And can you post pictures of the hatch installed on an outback.

jaws197 08-25-2012 12:36 PM

Anxiously awaiting some more pics and info please? I would love to have this done to my outback!:drool5:
And free install???
:you_rock:

Iceman 08-25-2012 04:30 PM

11X14 3/4 is the outer dimension. Once I install one in an Outback I'll post it up.

It will hold some weight.

Iceman 08-25-2012 04:49 PM

size comparison this is the backing plate for the hatch.

As soon as I come up with an excuse to drop my outback off I'll be giving you a call.

roadx 08-25-2012 09:08 PM

ok..... whats the depth of the bucket ? :D

finyak 08-25-2012 10:50 PM

That's too cool,I've always wondered why they had the round hatch.I want one for sure.

jbaker 08-27-2012 08:56 AM

I have two questions regarding the install on the outback, first the mirage drive tie down and pad eye loctated on either side of the round hatch, ae you going over them or off setting the hatch! It looks like the out side edge of the hatch will only cover half the threaded hole. Secondly, the round hatch has a lip on the rear 1/2" from the edge of the hatch rim. It looks like in the picture your stratling the lip, won't that leave a void under the hatch and not letting the hatch seal properly?

erinoo 08-27-2012 11:43 AM

Andy...Does Brent have any of those buckets for the pa 12..???

Iceman 08-27-2012 04:01 PM

buckets are 5" deep, here is another angle to show you how it will sit. The new 2013 even have the 4 corners dimpled to show you where to drill out.

Brent does not have em Eric, but I can get you one.

JNAST13ST 08-27-2012 06:26 PM

They don't have them at mission?

fishingfiend 08-27-2012 07:20 PM

Thanks for the picture! Do the center hatch screws at the 12/6 positions line up with the PA trim ring?

http://fishingfiend.smugmug.com/Othe...0/L/trim-L.jpg

Iceman 08-27-2012 09:04 PM

It looks like those existing holes should line up. Once I get around to installing one I'll confirm.

walrus 08-29-2012 09:31 AM

Will it fit an Oasis, I keep looking at the pictures and looks like it might.

If the answer is "yes", will Mission Bay be able to install?

Matar 08-29-2012 11:48 AM

Got mine in the mail yesturday and the holes do not line up on mine at least. I have an 2010 model and the bunngie and tiedown plug lands right on the trim ring. I would have to cut the backing ring or cut out the molded in threads for it to work. I am going to try and lay the whole thing out tonight and see if it will work or not before i start cutting and let you guys know how is turns out. Also the lip on the backside of the round hatch with be cut out as the whole thing is bigger.

Matar 08-29-2012 05:15 PM

5 Attachment(s)
installed just need to fine tune.

fishingfiend 08-29-2012 05:29 PM

Looks great, thanks for taking the plunge and sharing! It looks like the edges of the bungie and tiedown plug are still slightly exposed? After your fine tuning, would you share a couple more close up pics of the side? Also, how do you like it? Is it sturdy?

romspacenut 08-29-2012 05:53 PM

Andy, do you think this would work with the Hobie Adventure Island?

StinkyMatt 08-29-2012 07:04 PM

Can someone say bait tank?

:D:D:D

With just a little more tinkering I see someone putting in a bait tank right there. Kind of like the "kaya tank"

Wouldnt it be great if Hobie made a factory tank option to put right there? Imagine all the room behind you without that big tank?

2013 Hobie product of the year award!:luxhello:

Deefeesha 08-29-2012 07:21 PM

Looks great! Now I need one.

Iceman 08-29-2012 07:46 PM

Matt,

Glad it worked out! I had not checked older models as I only had access to 2012. Thanks for posting up the modifications needed.

No this would not work on the Adventures.

steveooo 08-29-2012 08:12 PM

Those pics look familiar...

Here is my first outback from June 2005

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...rr/file-82.jpg

The boat hatch I installed to try to get a little more storage. It leaked like a SOB.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...rr/file-81.jpg

Back when rats, tights, and water shoes were cool...

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...rr/file-83.jpg

Mac's were cool enough to me to take pictures of...

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...rr/file-84.jpg

Until I caught one of these- that was the beginning of the end. Can you say cluttered deck?

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...rr/file-85.jpg

When can I expect my royalty check from Hobie? :D

With how much thought Hobie puts into the smallest detail of everything they make, I'm sure this will be a pretty awesome upgrade.

jaws197 09-04-2012 12:20 AM

Iceman,
I have a 2012 outback and wondered if you had any pics yet on the install and final of the new hatch yet? Wonder hoe the mirage drive bungee attachment point will be when this is done?
