Hi Jim,
Is there any spot that is noteworthy or neat to see to stop and picnic on the way up, will have wife, and 6 & 8 yr old kids in tow. Perhaps, a couple hours outside of June Lake. Thanks, Chris |

I like to stop in Bishop and fuel-up at the Indian Casino (usually a good "cash" gas price) and then get a sandwich at Meadow Farms smoked meats...and while I'm there, I get some double mahogany smoked bacon to wrap my trout in and some spicy smoked Louisiana sausage for the crawdad boil. Then I drive up to the lookout on Sherwin Summit and look back at Long Valley and enjoy my sandwich. http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwegall...0/P6090155.JPG |

If you are into geology, Fossil Falls is pretty interesting. May not keep the attention of youngsters though. Also, I don't know if Manzanar is open or not |
Thanks for the tips, my kids like stuff like fossils, we probably check it out.

The Mt Whitney hatchery is a beautiful place in Independence off the 395
https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/Fishing/.../Mount-Whitney I haven't been there for about 7 years but they have a nice pond full of brood stock that you can feed. (Bring quarters for the pellet machines) I don't think the hatchery itself is operational anymore but it's a nice scenic area to stop and enjoy the beauty. http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/y...ry/today-1.jpg |
