We have been catching Bonito, but where are the yellowtail?!

Denis_Ruso 09-26-2017 08:16 PM

Don't feed the seals.

Dingokevin 09-26-2017 09:37 PM

Yes don't feed the dogs. It teaches them to follow and take what is yours not theirs. Next time that cute seal will be taking your yellow at the side of your kayak.

Never feed the POS seals, you definitely broke the cardinal rule of kayak fishing. If you want to feed these roaches, theres seaworld.

Cronus 09-27-2017 06:24 AM

Are you licking the camera????

Dan 09-27-2017 08:21 AM

Nice dude. You guys are amp'd!!! Way to score on them them tiger tunas. So fun on the light tackle.

Dirty Curti 09-27-2017 08:54 AM

I hate it when you get a tangle on your thing.

You guys are too funny. That's how to have fun.

acorad 09-27-2017 10:24 AM

Great job on finding the fish! I love catching bonito on light tackle. Quickly bleed them and ice them for best eating I think.

Andy

PS: Thanks for being cool with the suggestions of the commenters above, they are spot on. http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/l...405-story.html

JamesM 09-27-2017 12:31 PM

Nice catch! Is that an Outfitter?

Rex 09-27-2017 12:59 PM

jorluivil 09-27-2017 04:03 PM

Just in case no one has mentioned it, DON'T FEED THE SEALS!!

chris138 09-27-2017 05:08 PM

Don't worry about these haters... they can't even tell the difference between seals and sea lions

Great video and post looks like you guys had a blast!:cheers1:

Ok... so since you hook a fish it is YOURS? Actually the dog is the local who belongs there, and you are taking HIS fish. Also, any kayak who is getting their YT robbed by dogs in LJ is fighting their fish like a sissy.

I am so sick of people blaming dogs for their poor fishing skills.

The only "roaches" in La Jolla are the human beings, especially the trolls on the forum who hate on beginners and make up rules about fishing.

No actually, ask any biologist and they will tell you feeding an animal only encourages it to come up to people looking for food. And yes when that fish is on MY line it is mine. You're right any time a dog gets your fish at the side of the boat =you're a sissy. Because many anglers have never had that happen.

Sealions have ears. Seals have holes. My expertise degree in biology with a minor in marine biology. Have a nice day see you on the water. Tight lines

What does hate have to do with the advice of not feeding dogs!? I too say don't feed them, then do what you want and enjoy your fishing.

jorluivil 09-27-2017 10:43 PM

Seals/sea lions.......no one really gives a shit what they're called, the point is to not feed them.

King Saba 09-27-2017 11:35 PM

No worries. Feed the sea lions. But be sure to not feed the sharks! The sharks!!!

PapaDave 09-28-2017 06:21 AM

A. It's not your fish until it is in the boat (or kayak).
B. It's not important what the animals are called, they eat fish.
C. They are quick learners, feed them once and they will catch on.
D. It's a good idea to not encourage them to look at kayaks (or boats) as sources for food.
E. They can get aggressive, and they are bigger then you.

Whoops, won't feed the seals again guys! We caught a smaller bonito, it was bleeding and threw it back, instantly a seal zipped over and caught it, so it was a semi-intentional feeding.

Anyways, It was a great time. 2nd Time kayak fishing - ever.

Yes it is a 2011 hobie outfitter.

Except for Weddell seals.

patoloco 09-28-2017 11:35 PM

I just want to feed and love all the abused and misunderstood marine mammals. 😚

mpxmedical 09-29-2017 10:49 AM

Yes, best way to get the salt off the lens. You will notice some shots are sort of blurry/cloudy, this is from a thin layer of salt/sunscreen on the lens.

I doubt anyone ever accused you of giving a shit about marine life... Its definitely a first for me, thanks! I'm sure that attitude will work real well in the next MLPA closure debate when some plucky fisheries biologist is ripping us to shreds.

Oh but if some kook at the launch calls your yellowtail a tuna, I bet you love that. I never said it was a good idea to feed them, I merely suggest that the internet not dogpile on this poor bastard in one of his first posts.

Especially when they are out there having 10 times more fun than all the grumpy old "locals" in ProAnglers.

jlabs63 09-30-2017 11:06 AM

Awsome Video...

I seriously watched that twice and was cracking up. Keep them coming!

Nice Catch. I still haven't worked up the courage to try bonito. Maybe next time, I will bleed and ice one.

And yeah, lets go easy with the Bloody Deck-ish posts.

2-Stix 09-30-2017 03:37 PM

I don't know what was more humorous the video or the peanut gallery on the form. Good action all the way around!

taggermike 10-01-2017 05:21 PM

My cat is just stupid for fish too. The second I open the door with fish she's buzzing around me like a fly. Your cat scored big time. Mike

taggermike 10-01-2017 05:38 PM

Jlabs63, no courage needed about bonito. Just bleed em and keep them cool and they'll good. I've eaten bonito BBQ-ed, smoked, seared, civeche, poki, even sushi.
I caught one yesterday and made a big batch of "tuna" salad. My wife and kids destroyed it. Mike
