Did you use the abu garcia on the saltiga? Thinking of maybe picking both up and using them together?

chxh8me 12-16-2014 07:50 PM

No, I had a saltist 40 on the rod. The Abu is more of a 20lb reel, in my opinion.

Which of the carnage rods work with the ABU Garcia rod?

Either of the XL rods would work just fine. As the reel is rated 17-25lb.

You could probably get away with putting it on the ML for shallow water rock fishing, but I wouldn't go chasing 20+ lb yellowtail or wsb with it. It's more of a light-medium saltwater application reel (bass/halibut/rockfish)

I am looking for something light for my wife. I sometimes take her on local charters for rock fishing in depths up to 300 feet. Would that be a good setup. I am not familiar with those rods or reel?

The 700ML is perfect for rockfishing. Light and responsive. I have one already,
and I will be keeping another one for my wife for rockfish.

The XL's would be too light for deep water, once you start hanging heavy weight on them.

As far as the 7000 goes for deep water.. I'm not too sure. I didnt really use it much, and when I did it was shallow. I imagine it would be ok. The level wind and upgraded handle should make it pretty comfortable for her.

I really do like the Carnage rods a lot. If you want to get a feel for them to help with your decision, Sport Chalets typically carry a full line of them.

I will check it out at Sports Chalet over the weekend. You are far from my house so I want to make sure its the right one before I drive out there.

No problem. That's why I mentioned it.
I'll most likely be headed to San Pedro on Sunday if that helps at all. Not sure when I'll be down there next.

Final price bump.
Last chance before these go back.
Local pickup only, in the areas I mentioned.
