Birds of a feather...

Despite the rumor mill of revamped posts from yesteryear it's been business as usual. Nothing's changed; the same guys who catch fish are catching fish. The internet is chock-full of chatter and banter; from professionals of exactly that. Chatter and banter. It's like watching a flock of a thousand Cormorants---while I keep catching fish. You know, that social bird? The ones mysteriously staring you down until they see another Cormorant. Yeah, that one. They're in a constant state of finding new friends to fly with. And in doing so, the fishing itself sits idle on the back burner. Why go fishing if you can talk about it, right? I mean who are we kidding, there's just too many Cormorants to meet up with. They might all look the same to you, but apparently each of these birds is unique and has something to offer---to other Cormorants.

Which is great if you're a Pelican. A pelican, as annoying and determined as they might be, are always focused on finding the fish. They're all business! They pay attention to the Dolphins, kayak anglers, sport-boats and Cormorants, but don't just dive down on every opportunity. Oh they'll dive down, mind you. They'll slam your Sardine without hesitation. Even if it means getting hooked. Then they'll slam your Sardine again. Which is an admirable quality in and of itself. That's a supremely focused bird if you asked me. With the pace of software gadgetry I have no doubt birds will one day be sporting the latest and greatest, new best thing, too. Each year these gadgets are smaller, faster and take less brain cells to operate. Soon every Cormorant on the Coast will be able to locate other social circles without even having to fly. Only bound by the second tier priority of actually finding fish. That said, regardless of software updates I find it highly unlikely the Pelicans would give a $h!t. After all, there's just too many fish to catch!

You might be asking yourself: What in the hell do said birds have to do with me? And that my friend is a question only, you, can answer. I realize each and every one of us are wired differently; and for that matter, it takes all types to make the world go round. Regardless of the fact that you fit in with the Cormorants or Pelicans, you still have a place in this world. You're special in your own way. I'm of the opinion, though, that If everyone had Williams syndrome this world would be a better place. Until then, I'll just have to make do with what I've got.

Despite what the fishing reports of 2006 have to say: It's not wide-open; and everyone isn't catching White Sea Bass. Or, Yellowtail for that matter. It's the same ebb and flow of the Sea---year after year. Conditions are in a constant state of flux, mind you. The moon comes and goes. The tides change accordingly. The same guys who catch fish, keep catching fish. The internet chatter/banter is going full speed and will continue to do so. Regardless of what's actually happening, of course. Which depending on how you look at it, is, a good thing. If you decide to live your life vicariously through the internet, more power to 'ya!

Which leaves me with one question: What kind of bird are you?

Billy V 04-19-2012 10:11 PM

...that sleek Hobie Revo makes you look thinner. Much more so than the portly pro angler... or it might be that you are in the background of a fat fish.

I'm not sure, it could be a combination of all of it.

Rav3n805 04-19-2012 10:15 PM

I'm a dam penguin:o my ice is melting, soon will be a sea eagle. just need some more time to finish school then I will be flying high w ya all.... oh yea nice :wsb:

Definitely had to read that post a few times to make total sense of it, but as I read through it a few times it begins to make sense. You can certainly see cliques within the circle. While I don't know everybody who posts on here and fishes out there, I have had the pleasure of meeting a solid group in the short time I've lived her.

For the most part, I've met great people willing to help. Others, with an attitude leaning toward "Figure it out yourself" or people with hear/say all the time

It's all a matter of what type of bird you want to surround yourself by.

The rumor mill has got me going on the water a lot more than normal this weekend, but not because of the hype associated with it. I've been around long enough to know the internet is 90% bs. So what if there were 15 YT on Tuesday, doesn't mean there are 15 YT today or tomorrow. But, I at least got out to find out for myself. I find that I'm a pelican at heart, but it takes time being a cormorant too. If that makes sense?

When I started surfing, I paddled into the biggest group I could find and talked to every surfer I could meet. How do I do this, how do I do that. Meanwhile I'm too busy chatting and reading and figuring out which board is better than that other, that I missed all the waves. After my time as a cormorant were finished, or the phase passed, I became a pelican of surfing. On the water everyday, paddling into any wave that scared me. One day I became a surfer. 15 years later, I'm a cormorant again. But not in my own eyes, but in the eyes of other cormorant. They view me as a social bird, someone they can come up to, ask a few pointers, stuff that like. So I play the role of a cormorant, but am a pelican at heart when it comes to my surfing.

That's a lot to digest =)

Nice fish :wsb:

The daily grind persistence paid off. Nice catch.

Not everyone can be a proffessional guide, and while I sit at my boring job from 5am to 4pm...yes, I will be living vicariously through fine chaps such as yourself on this world wide interspace. While im at it I'll banter. And joke. And gosip like a school girl. And stay light hearted because I don't have a huge stick up my ass.
On the same note, as I leave my job when the bell rings this fine 4/20 I'll be packing up, hitting the road, and doing what it is we do, because this shit is in my bones.
Its easy to classify people. I guess noone should even post on this site since we should all be religiously fishing 7 days a week.

This bird is still snake bit. Lots of peddling chasing yellows yesterday - I think I set a new personal record for miles peddled in a half day. Seems like everytime I come back from a long day of GETTING SKUNKED out there I get to see a post by Josh of another fish he has caught! Well done! Nice fish as usual. In my next life, I will surf every day and fish whenever I want - and get paid to do it!!!!:jig:

blitzburgh 04-20-2012 05:54 AM

HOLY CRAP NICE FEEESH! I want to be a pelican desperately! For now, I guess I'm a Crow?:trytofly:

nice analogy with the the sea birds josh. fishing for a living and to be successful you have to be the PELICAN. love that huge fish more.
looking forward to getting out on the water; hopefully very soon and trying my luck.
in the mean time i guess i must be a vulture, lurking on the forum looking for scraps of info and fish porn......:D

Beautiful Fish Josh :cheers1:

I like to think of myself as a little retarded chick with a gimp leg that is dillusional in thinking that he is a cage fighting rooster on steroids.

I only wish my ice chest looked like it had an overgrown peacock in it :D

j mo 04-20-2012 09:47 AM

Gald to know someone still fishes a Revo...

walrus 04-20-2012 09:51 AM

Well said, Josh.

I'll add this quote:

"The ninety and nine are with dreams content, but the hope of the world made new, is the hundredth man who is grimly bent on making those dreams come true."

P.S. This was written over one hundred years ago and is not about the occupy movement. However, it was true then and is true now.

NextBite 04-20-2012 10:10 AM

Simply Amazing Josh ;)

Many of us can't spend 8-15 hours a day sitting on a piece of tupperware looking to hook a fish. For those of you that can, congrats on your independent wealth. I don;t have to worry about you responing because you are still out there fishing and won't have time to read this.

Those many of us that fuel, maintain, or guide the engine that is this country remain at our posts performing the tasks required and viewing the boards periodically.

Congrats on the fish and having the considerable time to put in to catch it.

Do pigs fly???

steveooo 04-20-2012 03:01 PM

"God provides enough food for all the birds, but he does not throw it in the nest."

My wife like birds, and feels really sorry for them when they fly into our sliding glass patio door. I tell her that if she really really felt sorry for them, she would move the bird feeder to outside our house :D I'm sure there is an analogy in there, something about not being able to catch fish from behind Windows or PC's or something like that....

Spring fever is upon us, although it sure looked & felt a heck of a lot like summer today. Nice fish Josh :cheers1:

Monovasia 04-20-2012 03:37 PM

Well...

What gets me on the water is free time and weather....I am happy for those that caught fish and sympathize with those that got skunked...great sport, lots of fun, cool people, great times...

roadx 04-20-2012 06:32 PM

i think im a seagull? you know the one that hangs at the launch, sooner or later they get one. blind luck and patience
plus im always bugging everyone at the launch :D

NICE fish bro

William Novotny 04-20-2012 07:08 PM

I reread this report umpteen times as I often do when something irks me. I shouldn't be so quick to be defensive. I obviously identify with the the comparisons mentioned do to the fact that I actively participate in the meaningless banter that takes place in these forums. I like to joke, tells stories, lie about fish, basically interact with my kinda people instead of deal with my dumbf:)ck coworkers 60 hrs a week. Then come home and cook and care for a 19month old little girl. So bwe is my only consolation to make me feel closer to the water. If thats not what this site is for then maybe im in the wrong site. I guess your supposed to catch fish, report it and thats it....no wait, that cant be right. Catch fish, dont report it, hold onto the info till the secrets out, then post....this is getting confusing. Ill be at lj tomorrow. if youre a pelican and not to high and mighty to wave at a fucking cormorant, ill be on a green xfactor with a trolling motor doing burnouts in the kelpbeds scaring all the fish away.

By the way josh that is a beautiful fish, jealousy my be partially responsible for the tone of my rant.

Well Josh, in some circles, I might be considered a sheep of the black color.

With that said, congratulations on another excellent, and a great write-up!

With in every profession, or Art, or hobby there are masters, who for reasons us non-masters can't fathom, excel and make it look effortless what they do. You Josh are a Master. Great fish.

It is neat that you are making friends, both of you, but try not to make too many enemies in the process. I myself am a bit of a smartass, and have a few of both on this site already.

Was this even a fish report? I caught a fish but I won't say when, where, or how. Josh, thats a hell of a nice fish and good advice about not following the crouds, but maybe doesn't belong in the "fishing report" section. I enjoyed your bird metaphore and found it though provoking. I'm thinking of a blue heron for myself. Maybe we need a "philosophical waxings" area on BWE. Mike

Turkeys are black, but so are crows. I'd say your more of the former, and I'm more of the latter.

William Novotny 04-21-2012 08:55 PM

Would someone mind telling me what im "in the wrong" about? And thanks but I dont need "supporters" im not running for office here, just bullshiting on a fish forum. You on the other hand are doing a great job as lobbyist. Next time you should use powerpoint for your presentation. And colorful pie charts.

Are we "fishing enemies" now? Are there any related colors I should steer clear of when clothes shopping and do I need to "watch my back" on the water?

lowprofile 04-21-2012 09:31 PM

and this is what happens when people don't just go fishing....

shut up, grab your yak, head out and fish Or... go back to your awesome life of making this world turn and quit bitching about guys who catch fish.

i worked 94 hours this week... and still fished twice and am going again.
