LJ Saturday-Sunday Report

http://www.bigwatersedge.com/images/.../YT-Shore1.jpg

Went out on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. Back-to-back YT on the iron. I had a store-bought squid on the dead stick, but it was never touched (except for the one that some creature poached off the hook, that is). Went back to the same spot on Sunday, hoping for a repeat performance. This time the squid didn't even get poached. That's how dead it was.

At home they weighed 32 and 28 pounds. Woohoo! Finally broke through the 30 pound barrier.

David

P.S. If I look a little wet, it's because I almost dumped it on the way in. The drive mechanism gave me some trouble. Here is a side note for the Hobie pedalers (like me). The sail mast on your sail (i.e. your flippers) is held in place by an allen screw. If the allen screw loosens up, the mast can slip off at an inopportune time. Like when you are landing through the waves. You don't lose the mast or anything, but one of the flippers becomes temporarily useless and you unexpectedly go a lot slower. Easily put back in place with an allen wrench once you lift out the drive mechanism.

Don't get me wrong. I still love my Hobie. But now I know to snug up that allen screw when I set up the boat the night before.

Hobie!

Great job and great perseverance, David! Maybe we need to get a crash pad near La Jolla for those overnite encores! I think Oscar had the exact same problem with his Hobie! Looks like it's wise to carry a lil allen wrench set in your pocket if you're a rocket ship pilot! Also looks like it might be a good year! Keep up the great work! Piranha/Jerry :ciao:

Saturday was definitely a good day for those in the right place at the right time. Congrats on yours.

Wow! Nice pair o jacks. The surf looks like it would take some timing to land.

What's "a little wet" after you slayed a couple of beauts like those! Your grin says it all. Well done!

I thought I'd wait until the 5th of the following month lol

But seriously, I'll make my submission when I get around to it... probably tonight.

I hear ya! :) It's a no win situation. If you post too early, people will give
you flack, if you post too late, you're holding out. Congrats on your catch.

lamb 02-11-2008 06:31 PM

Nice haul! :cheers1:

Wow, it seems like the front page has a quick turnover these days. :luxhello:

So Mr.Greenjeans, did you miss the opening tournament that automatically puts you into WCW? I think you have some potential to be a spoiler.

lamb 02-11-2008 06:46 PM

Hmmm.... :bandit:

Thanks for the consideration Josh. WCW would be too much pressure for me. I have to do it just for the fun...and the fish tacos...and the occasional fleeting glory of a front page post.

THE DARKHORSE 02-11-2008 09:17 PM

The pressure......

You are right about the pressure. I'm embarrassed by the pressure I feel for the first couple of fish each month. That's what makes this tournament worth while. I'm way more stoked with a solid fish now as opposed to a regular catch and release memory fish. The beauty of it is I'm able to fulfill my conservation needs even more as I know exactly how big a fish needs to be for an upgrade and release the rest. You are right about the fleeting glory of the front page. (I know a guy who is #1 in WCW and has never got a front page)

Is that what's eating Gilbert Grape?? :)

OK, here are the the instructions on how to get the post appear on BWE front page posted long time ago:

http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/s...ght=front+page

I have yet to see the post from a guy who is #1 in WCW that meets the requirements spelled out above.

Plus a common sense thing with the front page - post has got to have a descent picture, it kind of makes sense that the post is timely... IMHO, end month summary is not really a front page material.

Way to go, David!
We've been waiting for the day you would catch that 30lber and know what a beautiful fight you would have, and how much fun yellowtail fishing can be off of La Jolla.
We've always admired your bassing skills up at DP. But, while bass fishing is still very nice, there's nothing better than hooking one of those hard fighting yellows to make a kayak fisherman sing another tune.
And you caught 2 beauties. Congratulations, again.
