Hobie trolling help
 

The factory installed flush mount rod holders on my hobie point almost straight toward the stern of the yak. This makes trolling 2 rods about impossible but worse allows the line to tangle in the rudder. Aside from taking out the original rod holders and replacing them, are there other ways so swing the rods out away from the kayak? How have you guys dealt with this issue? Thanks, Mike

Old school but I like 'em the best...

(1 1/2" and you can grind or slit the tubes to fit, or 1 1/4" and they will wobble a bit)...

mr JB, those holders look pretty good. Are they locked in to the flush mounts so they won't spin and point back when a fish strikes? It looks like you can point them forward to put the rodin then swing them out away from the kayak? Thanks, Mike

What I've seen many do is to allow them to swing out and add a rod leash to the yak to limit the how far they swing out.

Mike -

I use a static (non-stretch) line with several adjustment points for my clips/carabiners. I don't want any more give than my rod provides.

I reality, I found an angle of +/- 45 degrees works best for me, and seldom reposition the holders. Too far forward and it's too close to the boat, too far to the rear and you have to move your head too much to watch your rod tip. When you're close to a baitbarge or wherever, you can fold them in towards the front of the boat so they don't get hung up.

ChefT, I use one rod whe I'm live bait fishing for larger fish. But some times in south SD bay I'll troll 2 lines. Mike
