La Jolla Launch Toxic

I heard from a marine biologist friend that the La Jolla launch could soon be closed because of excessive dihydrogen monoxide levels. Apparently the stuff is measuring off the charts and washes up almost to the street on high tides. The fish are swimming in that stuff, makes me wonder about eating fish from La Jolla. Hope you OC guys don't mind that I visit Doheney more often.

No problem. The Pseudomonas and E. coli need friends too.

Oh and Laguna? Well they screwed the pooch there too:

Well that settles it. No more kayaking for me. I'm scared shitless of that DHMO. Just think; twenty years of DHMO exposure in the Navy. I may already be a dead man. Thanks for the heads-up Dave. You may have saved my life.

Classic...

Wow Dave! Thanks! DHMO is responsible for the loss of thousands of human lives! It is dangerous stuff! I think the best course of action is for everyone to find other favorite spots other than La Jolla until this passes!:D We wouldn't want anyone hurt by this awful stuff!

Think about the children...

Thank you for raising this issue, Dave. You are truly the Al Gore of our generation.

Morro Bay?

DHMO is a universal, inorganic solvent that forms ionized solutions of NaCl that can only be removed by fractional distillation or reverse osmosis. Beware!

sbsyncro 10-31-2008 08:15 AM

Kayaking-related risks of DHMO include:
  • Death due to accidental inhalation of DHMO, even in small quantities.
  • Prolonged exposure of the legs and gluteal regions can cause tissue damage.
  • Contamination of marine electrical systems often causes corrosion and short-circuits.
  • Sustains killer sharks involved in many deadly attacks world-wide.
  • Often associated with dangerous marine weather conditions
  • Thermal variations in DHMO are a suspected contributor to the El Nino weather effect.
  • Acts as a disease-carrying agent in marine animals

LOL

There is also a evidence that after years of being in DHMO fish cannot live without it, even if removed from the DHMO for a small period of time...say a few minutes.

Don't come to Doheney, it is reported to be 1 of the dirtiest beaches in OC.
