Any know of a good rechargeable fish finder battery?

What's your budget?

Top of the line are LiPo batteries. Light weight and hold up to a lot of recharge cycle and handle being completely drained well. Will set you back about 120$ for a 10 amp though.

I’m pretty happy with the ones they sell at Oex. They also rig up a pelican case for it

I was looking in buying this one, but not sure.

Lithium Ion is good, light weight, compact, powerful. I have successfully used lithium ion for several years. The downside of lithium ion is it's chemistry, saltwater and lithium ion do not play well together. In the event of an accident with a lithium ion battery...the results may not be good, especially on a plastic kayak..on the ocean. This is where the lifep04 shines, the battery chemistry is much more stable. In the event of accidental submersion there is no chance for an accidental explosion as you might get with lithium ion. Down side of Lifep04 is it's a little bit bigger, little bit heavier...other than that not too many drawbacks, as compared to lithium ion.

I saw Robert field endorse that battery, and was curious.

Where can I buy a Lifep04? Is it only through the website?

I got my Noqua 10 and love it. Used it for 3 4-hour trips and it still had juice for more. My guess it’s good for about 16 hours or more. Powers my HDS 7. Super small, light, and waterproof. Probably the best $120 spent for my yak.

Customer service is also good. Exchanged for emails and they were always responsive.

Note that voltage works a little different. This batter won’t die past the 11.9v like the other ones. This one will read 10.1 and still works. Not sure at what voltage it’ll die.

Yeah, I have heard good things on youtube. How do you like the hds 7 I'm debating on getting it or the hook 7?

I had a Hook 7 and it was a piece of s... :) upgraded to the HDS 7 Gen 3 and it’s great. Better display, faster, more functions, etc. Should have upgraded sooner!

I purchased a LiFePO4 battery and charger at Frys. Paid about $150 so definitely cheaper to be patient and buy online. A Hook5 on full brightness in split screen gps map and sonar mode ran for more than 20 hours in my garage. I was getting about 5.5 hours with my 1 year old lead battery.

I use this battery on a garmin 4 CV, I have never had the battery die on a 1 day trip before and using for 8 hours or more in. Using a drybox with it and works perfect. Doesn't have to be $100 to work well in my opinion, and you still have money to buy a backup if you are paranoid. Good Luck.

SLA (sealed lead acid) are the budget option for our setups. Heavy, shorter life span, and heavy all make for a less-than-ideal option.

If you have the $$, get either a Lithium Ion and a good sealed case, or LiPo battery and call it a day.

IMO it all depends on what your needs are(budget too)

I have 3 9ah lead batteries that I bought for under $50. No waterproof case and ZERO issues. Would I like a slightly lighter battery? Sure... but there is no way I am spending over $2-300 on batteries. I need at least two to use when I go camping.

Another thing worth mentioning is Lifepo4 has an estimated 2000+ charge cycles as compared to the NOCQUA estimated 500 Charge cycles.


Seems like you would be OK either way, if your battery being light-weight and portable is important to you maybe the nocqua is the right battery for you. Otherwise you can't go wrong with a lifepo4.

IF I can make 500 trips in one kayak I will gladly replace the battery if I get to fish that much! :)
