Successful first ever surf launch. Waves were perfect at 515am and the red tide stench wasn’t to terrible. Managed to wrangle over 20 calico between my buddy and myself. The water vis was terrible in the kelp and we thought it was going to be a skunk day but a half hour into the trip we were on em! Swim baits all day. Kelp dwellers were alive despite the red tide conditions. First time posting so I hope this works haha. Photo to follow.

Welcome to the BWE Community. Congrats on the first surf launching, the launching are no big deal, it's the landing were thing can go wrong. Nice day out there today too bad the wind picked up and made it a very strong current and very choppy on the outside.

Welcome to the addiction. Enjoy yourself and stay safe.

And I agree with the prior post. It is not the launching usually. It is the landing.

Tight lines.

Landing was definitely a heart pounder. Thanks for the welcome boys. 🍺

Congrats on getting out there. You'll get better at launch and landing and then one day you'll think you got it and get lazy and complacent and neglect to strap down your favorite setup. That'll be the day a surprise set sneaks up on you...Ask me how I know :)

Bass on the swimbait are always welcome! Did you venture out passed the kelp to look for some cleaner water?

Do you best to avoid catching a wave coming in and you’ll be fine. Last week I watched a dude on a blue hobie catch a set wave in and absolutely yard sale all of his gear- thresher included.

I actually just stayed around the kelp I didn’t venture to far. It was my first time in the ocean on the yak so I wanted to take it slow. Brought bare minimum stuff for sheepshead and bass because I expected to have a yard sale my first surf recovery haha. It did look MUCH clearer straight East off the kelp though!
