Plastics advice

Okay, I am getting ready for this years fishing and am looking to not repeat the same error I did last year, which was to buy every type of jig head and plastic color there was on the shelf in mass quantities. I am aiming at reduceing the inventory to maybe 5 or 6 colors. I prinarily use the War Bait heads as I am usually in kelp and structure and those are great in that environment.

So my question to everyone is this... What are the five top patterns/colors that you use for catching bass and or halibut?

Black widow & Midnight Phantom - night
Sexy smelt & Pearl - day

Halloween and Red Calico Hunter also pretty good

And now i just use war bait head, no point to use regular BH head..that's me

These are my personal fav

FYI...i don't fish kelp often, mostly in harbor for sand/spotted bass...

Me personally, I am a "tackle whore" I too pick up a 1/2 dozen of the color du jour, but as of late I like christmas tree, and all the browns, I use the blk and gold in dirty water, but I agree on the condensing down or shaving the inventory, too many boxes on the deck, but you have a PA, you can keep all the colors on that thing...lol, good luck at DP wish I was there:reeling:

These are my favorites for swimbaits...
1) Flurry in red fish or Big Hammer in clear red flake
2) Flurry in bait ball
3) Flurry in fire avocado
4) Big Hammer or Flurry in Key Lime
5) Big Hammer in christmas tree
6) Big Hammer in tennessee shad

For heads I use 3/8-1.5oz Hammer Heads or Warbaits Slayer heads.

These are my favorites for jerk baits on a Owner Sled Head...
1) Zoom Super Fluke in baby bass
2) Zoom Super Fluke in watermelon red flake
3) MC slug in Lime

I can add .02.
I have a hobby of making my own plastic, and have taken the color thing to the extremes, as part of my 'product development'. Both in research and as an applied science.

My advice in the kelp...Black when the sky and or water are cloudy.

Yellow when it's clear.

Everything in between seems to be nuance.

Presentation and confidence are as important as color.

Tight lines,

Willy

I myself am a tackle whore so I can not give you advice on consolidating gear... however when it comes to baits. The best advice I can give you is go to the War Baits facebook page and look through their pictures.
People have posted some really nice looking plastic/ war head combos on there. The popular Big Hammer swimbaits are a must, but you should definitely add some creature baits to your arsenal.
