UPDATED Gonzaga on the FLY, October 24-31

TWENTY CONFIRMED, this trip is gonna ROCK. THIS TRIP IS FULL!!!!!!

Mako's Dream is almost done. Bathroom is working, toilet and shower. We have room inside for 6-8 and the outside covered pad is 32X16 feet with room for 6 under Ramada and 6 more on roof of ramada to sleep and room to camp on the sand too. Lot's of room for YOU. It will be WARM to HOT even at night so most will want to sleep OUTSIDE to catch a breeze. There are enough people to team up for dinners, so please form 5-6 teams and post. We have a freezer there so your meat can be kept frozen if needed.

Gonna be lot's of people to feed, fish with and generally have a blast with. Speaking of a blast, some background music for evenings would be nice. Tight Lines.

YakDout 04-25-2016 05:19 PM

BUSY BUSY, but should have no problem taking the time off for this one, It is my mandatory sanity trip...I will ask for a leave of absence for psychological reasoning.

It would be great if you could make it happen. Should be a great trip AGAIN this year. FYI every trip for the past two YEARS we have seen Roosters chasing mullet on our beach. Two at 50 lbs were caught with lots of smaller ones. The smallest was a beautiful rooster the size of my hand. With all the smaller ones you got to figure they might just be residents here now.

catching a rooster on the fly from shore would be an absolute dream come true!! ill keep my fingers crossed. I do a ton of fly tying, any good advice on patterns for that area?

Maybe I'll spin up a few dozen before the trip and give everyone a little goody box.........

Contact Baja_Traveler for his articulated mullet pattern and Fishing md might have a helmeted pattern too.

YakDout 04-26-2016 04:04 PM

Im coming with my first fly rod, baja be warned. Really excited to catch some of the local species ON THE FLY. Couldnt imagine anything big after catching a bonefish and some spotted bay bass in san diego bay my first outing.

YES I did, three mexican families were living there it was at km 114, maybe a small town will grow up there and we can name it, "Jimstown" in the founders honor. See you soon.

Mahigeer 07-06-2016 01:16 PM

I guess I can't miss this one either.

95% I am in.

I got portable water heater for the shower, if needed.

I will stay in my tent.

I hope the wind cooperates. This would be the third trip so I hope I get a chance to fish longer than last two times. The Hobie has not seen much action lately. In fact the last time was down there!

I am also been taking a condense version of Spanish language classes. Now I know What Baja California means--lower California.

Sivak 07-06-2016 03:04 PM

Count me in Bob!

domtesta27 07-06-2016 03:19 PM

Please count me in as confirmed. Counting down the days!!! would like to carpool with someone if possible though don't really wanna drive alone.

Anyone else going from Ventura county?

YakDout 07-07-2016 05:35 AM

Confirm me for this one Bob! Not missing it.

monstahfish 07-09-2016 06:17 PM

I'm in.

makobob 07-10-2016 08:25 AM

Welcome aboard Fishnstix and Monstafish. Is the 17 coming this time? Seeing we have lots of people I would suggest we team up for dinners. If using the restaurant and you bring the meat it will cost $5 per person plus drinks and tip. Sodas $1, beer $1.50, and they will cook meat to your order.

As of this morning we have 10 people CONFIRMED so that should cover 5 nights of cooking. Almost there, so those left out will be asked to bring stuff to share for breakfast, lunches. This is going to be a very active trip. Tight Lines.

farreola 07-12-2016 11:12 AM

count me in...will be doing either Friday am till Sunday or Friday pm till Monday.

YakDout 07-12-2016 11:42 AM

Ill share dinner cost with someone at restaurant. Anyone game?

monstahfish 07-13-2016 04:11 PM

I'm thinking grilled pizzas. What do we have for a grill down there currently? Fresh ingredients and trader joes dough. Anyone done this before?

We have a GMG Davy Crocket Pellet Smoker/Grill. This holds a tight temp anywhere from 150 to 550 degrees. You can easily bake breads, pies, pizza, you name it. I also have pizza stone you can do 15x12 pizzas, maybe 2 at a time, if I figure a way to stack them. There are also 2 weber charcoal grills and Buddha has used one of them to do some GREAT pizzas a few trips back. The smoker will impart a light fruit wood flavor to the pizza. It will also cook/smoke any meat you might want to try, I did ribs and a tenderloin that were to die for. Smoked fish no problem. Tight Lines.
