Fewer Fish Reports?
 

Does relatively fewer fish reports lately mean people are catching fewer fish?

Nothing bit my freelined mackerel this morning except for a seal, eventually. I switched to a topwater iron for trolling and caught 3 bonito right away. I kept one that I'm afraid was damaged a little too much and let the other two go in healthy condition.

I had a few theorys...

one is : less of a bite and less fish to report.

two : people have been catching fish and posting, and no longer feel the need to post yet again.

three : the bite is really good or shifted into other areas where people tend to be more tight lipped about it.

four : a combination of it all?

You guys must be new...

Everybody knows the less reports the better the fishing!

Have been trying to give a same day fish report since I got back into yak fishing. Know how much I appreciate the latest intel when deciding on where to fish, time, bait location,etc. so just returning the favor thru my reports. Seems like this community is pretty small so have no problem giving out info to fellow yakers. For me, bite has slowed and have been wondering what has caused the yellows to go tight lipped. Water temp is still way warm so you would think yellows would still be biting. Since bait has been somewhat difficult to make, maybe it has moved out of the area. Wish I knew the answer but we still have a number of weeks left before the first cold front hits us from the north. October and early November can be awesome so keep up the reports and let's max out the rest of the season. Tight lines and blessings to all.

Still plenty of fish around. Usually if you wait for a post, it's too late... even if it's a same day report.

The fishing is GREAT in Baja, SoCal and just about every where else. This is the year that we will all be talking about for the rest of our lives. GET out there and LIVE IT.

Just make a new friend or take an old one and do it. Fish, fish, fish. Tight lines.

All experience is good experience.

For me its been a little slower. Was out Sat morning till noon. Bait was easy and plentiful, with Green Backs and Spanish. Hooked up with a shark in 250 ft around 7:30am, then had about 4 short bites on the troll and 1 bite on the dropper loop. Finally got a yellow south of the launch near Marine Street. Smaller fish around 26", so back he/she went. Fish was caught topwater with a spanish on 25lb leader near kelp. A lot of boats out. Seemed like a lot of top water action and saw a decent amount of smaller fish being brought up and kept:(. I also saw a lot of rat yellows swimming around near the kelp and outside.

Maybe people are realizing how gay it is that every thread in the reports section starts with "La Jolla month/day" and within the report is the exact location, depth, bait and anything you need to know to put your lazy friend and his cousin on a yellowtail.

Another reason for not posting is the somewhat intimidating precision of the reports from the more experienced...:)

My report from La Jolla, Wednesday 9/23:
Launched just before 8 am, small surf but managed to time it badly and get fully soaked. :doh: Paddled out to kelp and got 2 bait in about 45 minutes. Don't know what they were as I am new to this (only 4th time out). Interestingly, had lots of bait hits but they kept shaking off...do you guys replace your Sabiki on a regular basis? I'm thinking that the barbs might wear down with time?

Trolled along the edge of the kelp, maybe 50 yards off until I got a hit at 2.5 miles from the launch (hey, I do have the free Navionics, it says it was between 60 and 300 ft deep!). Smaller sized YT (21 inches to the fork, I think that is the proper way to measure them?), but it was my first ever from the kayak so I kept it!

Started back in trolling the second bait and got hit, but no hook-up. It was still early, so got two more bait on the edge of the kelp and trolled again, but nothing. Back at the launch at 12:30. Nice hamachi for a late lunch (and dinner on Thursday!).

Not a lot of useful info, but hey, I'm learning from reading all of your posts! Great website for someone totally new to this. :you_rock:

Some of us can't catch fish maybe. lol
