That is a super destination. I loved fishing in my kayak there last May and staying in my travel trailer at the Silver Lake Resort across from the launch. It is a beautiful lake with very clear water. Without super light leaders (2 - 4 lb) the trout won't take your bait. Had to learn that the hard way.

Hi Jim -
I'm planning to go there this summer. It'll be the first time for me and the family. As for reservation, is this dry camping or actual cabin?
What to expect up there? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Sierras

Mike...Dry camping in the campground, with clean bathrooms and showers...campground spots are adjacent to the lake...

...cabins are across the street and trailer hook-ups are over there too, along with a great little cafe at the Silver Lake Resort (really good breakfast).
Campground reservations can be made in the USFS campgrounds in the June Lake Loop 6 months in advance. June, Silver, and Gull Lakes all have campgrounds and cabins...Grant is the biggest lake but has the least ammenities.
Mammoth Lakes is about 30 to 45 min. south of The Loop so you can stay there too and travel up to June for day trips...it's a beautiful ride between the two towns.
Lots of great hiking, horseback riding, trout fishing, and crawdad trapping in the Loop. The town of June Lake has a market, a few motels, a tackle store, and a few restaurants. Mono Lake and Yosemite are within day-trip distance from the Loop Lakes.
Anyone is welcome to our crawdad boil while we're up there the last week of May or the first week of September. There is no shortage of Crawdads...!
