Only small butts in the OC

Finally! After nearly 3 years of doing this I finally got me a legal halibut from the kayak! No weight on this guy, but he's a great eater size (25"). The fight wasn't half bad either. Got him in 100' with a strip squid.

Thanks! I gotta say, it was my first time having halibut and it's a nice succulent firm meat. Definitely not as good as rockfish, but I'd probably take another one. Just need to figure out a better way to make them instead of just pan-frying them and serving with garlic butter.

Yeah, he can't take good shots for jack.

I prefer to broil or grill them, but they are also good dipped in a tempura batter and deep fried. Pan frying is my last choice with fish. I take that back, boiling would be the last choice, but poached isn't bad. Dipped in batter and deep fried makes for great fish tacos.

Butts...

I picked up another 28" Halibut on Sunday and we love eating them

...here are a few recipe ideas...
Halibut wrapped in prosciutto ham and stuffed with basil leaves and cooked in olive oil.
Halibut dipped in Panko with crushed macadamia nuts cooked in coconut oil and topped with mango or pineapple and avocado salsa.
Halibut dipped in bread crumbs, fried and then used as fish taco fillings.
Halibut marinated in white wine, lime juice, honey, and herbs then BBQ grilled.
Baby Killer...LOL :luxhello:...you know where the big ones are...!
