DFG regs SoCal - what's open?

I was just checking something for a buddy of mine. I haven't been on their site in a while - it looks like DFG nicely redesigned their pages.

Heads up - rockfish is open through Dec 31st. Lingcod season is already closed.

Pretty cool quick reference (this is for So Cal, Point Conception to the Mexico Border):

I seem to remember a discussion about this awhile ago, but are kayaks not considered "shore based anglers"??? If they are the fishery is open year round.

Nah...

Boat-based anglers are fishermen that fish from boats or vessels of any size or any other type of floating object, including kayaks and float tubes.

Shore-based anglers are fishermen that fish from beaches, banks, piers, jetties, breakwaters, docks and other manmade structures connected to the shore.

Well that's very interesting. I guess I'll have to amend my mlpa post to say that we got absolutely nothing accomplished because at that time we were told that "shore based anglers" included float tubes and kayaks that were launched from the shore. Hence the allowance of shore based anglers in the areas we were fighting for.
