Looking for experienced wingman!

It has been years since I have been a part of this community. I am back, and I am looking to kayak fish some local SD shark hot spots. I am targeting medium sized makos and threshers in the 100# range. I have alot of experience sharking in both boats and kayaks off San Diego. This is not for beginners looking for a new adventure! I need an experienced kayak wingman that's not afraid of a dark overnight trip on the water or of long boring stretches of drifting, or of very large powerful game! Having said that I will only fish with someone who also isn't stupid, recognizes the dangers associated, and can be extremely careful! Fishing for Apex predators can be dangerous, so a level head and commitment to being safe are important! If you show up with a spinning rod and no PFD or VHF then Imma go home.

Hey what's wrong with spinning gear?

Handymansd 06-07-2015 07:50 AM

Oh c'mon Zed there just big dumb fish... Well, if you ever need a wingman for those other little critters let me know, it would be great to hit the water with you again anytime!

Easyday: I think you were being facetious, but just in case, spinning reel = donation to the fish Gods... Minimum specs for sharks should be in the neighborhood of 500+ yards of 100# line, and a 26-40lb drag reel. You can get away with less drag requirements due to you being a secondary drag in your kayak. But the larger models WILL take line and go deep around 1/4 way into the fight.
