Anchor Weight for my Hobie PA12

Thinking of going down to Big 5 to pick-up a weight to use as an anchor. How much weight do you think I need for my PA12? Been hitting Huntington and Newport harbors and been getting tired of constantly drifting and repositioning my yak.

Thanks!

Hoyt

Anchor

I use a mushroom anchor I believe it’s a 20lb I mostly use it in harbor . I built a quick release mounted to H Rail close to plastic hull mount . You can hang a ski bouy on the end of the rope . That way you can toss over and stay with your fish and return to your spot . I like it because of its shape and being plastic coated seems work well . My problem is remembering to bring the darn thing .

After losing my Danforth anchor and chain, I have opted to use a concrete cinder block. So far it has served me well.

For a kayak you do not need anymore than 5.0lbs, 7 at the most. What really matters is the anchor design. Danforth/fluke is for sand bottoms. Bruce is better for a rocky bottom or sand. I do not like Danforth anchors, they get lost easily where I fish in rocky areas. For kayaks you almost need a custom anchor that you make yourself, store bought ones are way too heavy for what you really need.

The prongs on an anchor hold you not the weight. You can use 2lbs as long as it hits bottom

I use a vinyl mushroom weight. I think 8lbs and has a bungee shock leader. I don’t like being actually tethered to the bottom. Hood my oasis and pro angler just fine.
