Avet MXJ - Clicker / Trolling question?
 

Hey guys,
I used my Avet MXJ the other day for the first time on the kayak. I was wondering if any other kayak/avet owners have figured out a way to adjust the spool tension while the the reel is in "bait" or "free spool" while the clicker is on? During trolling the tension is a little soft and those greenies can take line, especially with a wieght on the low rig.

I found a small (RCH) area where the drag is barely engaged that I used with the clicker while trolling. I felt like it had too much resistance, but it was the best I could do on the water. I have some thoughts and rigging ideas, but I'd like to hear from you Avet owners.

It's a nice reel, but now I remember why I sold my Accurate. Anyway thanks in advance!

Try using one of the scotty downrigger clips on your line, it helped me with some of my reels that have a light clicker, it'll allow you to regulate the amount of line out, yet still allow the fish to get the bait and hear your clicker go off.

Being lefty, majority of my reels are Avets. I feel your pain.

In the beginning while the reel is brand new, I'm usually happy with the clicker strength. It does wear out and weaken through time. Yeah, that porn star greenie pull line here and there, but those zzzzs are easy to differentiate from real zzzzzzzzzzs.

It looks like AVETs have 2 different type of clickers. The older reels I bought have the metal o ring for the clicker, no springs; the newer ones have the spring. See what's yours - the clickers with the spring mechanisym seem better/stronger.

The way I've been dealing with it - i make sure I keep the clicker parts clean and oiled... When it gets too weak, I just order new clicker and replace it. You can order the parts and do it yourself - it's easy and not too pricey.

I've tried the same thing - lifting up the level just a bit to have it slightly engaged. I felt the same way - too much of a tension. Plus I think as you have something start pulling the line, the tension even increases, no bueno. I think I lost one fish experimenting with that and gave up.

or put a rubber band on the rod ahead of the reel before you thread the line. take a little loop of line and put it under the rubber band.........cheap ass release clip. I just take the line coming out of the spool and wrap it over the top of the reel coming forward underneath. Don't forget to flip the line prior to engaging the reel...........right Brad?:D
