Closest campground or cheeeeeep motel to LJ?

Wife, kids visiting family in Ohio for 10 days. I couldn't go. :(:D

Plan on spending a few salty days in LJ. Where is the closest cheap motel, preferably somewhere where I could secure my kayak, even drag it into the room?

I know about campland on the bay, any other campgrounds close?

Thanks, Matt

Check this google link. This is at the Balboa exit off Hwy 5.

The Balboa exit is 5 minutes from the launch.

Anything on Mission Bay Drive is 5 minutes to the launch.

Holiday Inn Express Hotel San Diego

This is an option where you may be able to get a spot.

http://www.mtrp.org/campground.asp

There are many campgrounds up the coast but this time of the year may be tough.

San Onofre State Beach Campground
South Carlsbad State Beach Campground
San Elijo State Beach Campground
Silver Strand State Beach Campground
Harbor Beach Campground

Not sure if this will work for you but it's sort of camping.

Actually I just did a quick check, looks like there are spots open at these

These are all easy drives to LJ and you even may just decide to check out the waters in front of the camp.

A little ways further East but that might be off-set by the price (?)...Santee Lakes or Lake Jennings both have campgrounds. Jenning's has weekend night fishing for dinker cats...

There's also De Anza Cove.

"Urban camping" is a legit option if you really want to get after it hardcore... 12+ hrs on the water and you can pretty much sleep anywhere, why not at La Jolla shores? Showers are over-rated:goodnight:

If you get a few miles out of town the motels get cheaper. Encinitas Days Inn or EconoLodge, for example. A little closer and more $ is Hampton in in Del Mar.

You can run a bike cable lock through your scupper holes and leave it on your car.

If you go to Campland in the summer, good luck trying to sleep.....

Try priceline.com for the hotels , I've use it in the past and had some good luck in finding a decent place to stay at for 40-$50 a night.
