Lingdale

Austin, Brett and I launched at CL, hoping to see some ghosts. The launch was a bit rough, but we got in 2/3 dry. We shut off the finders to go stealth for a while, with no luck. Gave up on that and went straight to Lingdale.

Brett encountered a repeat offender short ling that gave him three chances and ended with a hookup. He also lost a lunker; I saw the dorsal fin, it was huge. Austin got a few shorts and one keeper. The calicos were on the chew and we all caught several. As Brett noticed, the males were in the shallow kelp and the grumper females were nesting further out. The cabs were in 20’ and the rock fish scattered around.

I hooked a nice bass and would like to say that it was my skillful bouncing retrieve that enticed him. However, like the last ling I caught, I merely had a 5” big hammer dead-sticked while I was eating my lunch. Sucker nearly tipped me over.

Somehow, Brett’s steering knob came unglued and the cable post fell into his Outback. Well, no steering on an Outback is kinda like pushing a merry-go-round through the water. It’s funny if you’re not the guy in the Outback. At least it happened at the end of the session.

The landing was dicey. Let’s just say that my kayak landed before I did.

Now, being the guy who had to peddle/ paddle a Tupperware bowl home for about 3 or 4 miles let me tell you, it wasn't easy, anything over about 2 mph and it was spinning out like a Sprint Cup car with a rear tire down...
The day was a good one even after farming the biggest calico I have caught in years, I was able to make a couple good ones stick on the Hammer...
Learned alot that day and have since fixed or repaired all that gave me trouble.
I am restocked and loaded up for the next session at CL, and I think I will follow Austin a little closer next time, he certainly put the hurt to those kelp critters :reel:
Thanks for the great pics, hopefully the next landing won't be so wet...
