Kayak patching
Looking to buy a used kayak. Talked to a guy who has one with a small hole patch on the bottom. Should I be concerned. How hard is it to patch kayaks? What should I look for?
|
I am paddling around a kayak with a temporary patch over a 2+ inch hole, and my ride is dry inside. You probably do not wat to deal with holes that are near structural support points (scupper holes). Andy (Iceman) at OEX Sunset Beach can fix anything. He can even fill a kayak sized hole with a kayak for most people.

Thanks for the replies. So far we're 1 and 1. Anyone else have an opinion on this? How much does a small hole repair usually run?
On another note, any suggestions on kayak brands, lengths, etc? I've seen some nice ones for around $600. |

welcome to BWE. go talk to Andy at OEX sunset beach see what he has, demo a few different kayaks. I would not buy a kayak with a hole in it for $600. Unless it was a pro angler.

For $600 you can buy a bunch of nice kayaks. Don't start with a problem!
You want to focus on your fishing not screwing around with bilge pump capacity numbers.:D |

How about a Tarpon 140 for $700??? |

First of,
Repair isnt usually too bad. Most repairs will run you 20-30.00 with OEX. However I agree if price isnt phenomenal, get something else. We have a tarpon 160i for 650.00, a Cobra FnD for 550, and a few other used boats at OEX Mission Bay. Andy usually has a few as well. |
If you dont know who did the patch then dont trust it.
