Transporting 2 kayaks
 

I have 2 kayaks, Outback and Kona, and I need to figure out a way to transport them around. Have a truck and can stack one on the other but that would minimize room for family beach items. Been looking at ladder racks with the J holders and been leaning that way. Even looking at small trailers and putting them there. Don't want to spend too much $$. Just wondering what you guys using to transport 2 kayaks.

At first i just put my 2 yaks in the bed of the truck but left no room for anything else. then i picked up a cheap used ladder rack but that was heavy bulky and ugly on a new truck, so i broke down and picked up a Thule Xporter from Andy. Light looks great and removes in seconds, well worth the money.

I'm thinking that two Hooter's girls to carry the 'yaks would work well...

+1 on the thule xsporter, its not cheap but well worth it. It's really nice to put the yaks up top and all the camping or fishing gear in a closed bed.

I bought all this used and in very good condition - I may still have the guys phone #, let me know if you need his info - he may have more. This is what I have:

58" crossbars + feet for Cherokee
Yakima stacker
Thule 875XT Hydro Glide pack (This is complete 4 pc set) ~ $100

You may not need 58" for two yaks...

couple of 2 by fours and some ebay saddles

I normally kick both of my yaks sideways and strap em in so I can still stow my gear in the open space to the opposite side. I also use a bed extender to strap them down that way as well.

Harbor Freight ladder rack. 250# capacity. Sometimes they are on sale. With the -20% coupon I got mine for around eighty. Its removable. I've stacked them, on the rack, for trips through town. I'm hesitant on hitting freeway speeds with them stacked. Maybe if I had a Yakima stacker.

I was going to make a new post until I saw this one. I've read (somewhere) that J racks don't fit the outback very well. Any experience with this? I'd like to plan ahead for the inevitable second kayak. I'm currently just using foam and tying down the outback on a Yakima roof rack.

My boat trailer converted to a flat bed to haul the yaks(and stuff) after I got rid of the boat. I gave away another older boat trailer a while back . If you keep an eye on craigslist and you're bound to come across something.

store all your kayak stuff inside the yaks and then put your towels and beach bags etc on top of them in the open compartments then spider net it and go.
