Lures?
I read a lot about using live bait or throwing irons.
This got me wondering - does anyone here troll artificial lures? Maybe some X-Raps with some weighted lines? What works? What doesn't? What if the reincarnation people are right and we're all doomed to come back as mackerels, sardines, or anchovies! |
you will probably see more chatter about crank baits when the water warms up and there are bonies and cuda around, I have caught juvi wsb on x raps, troll xraps all the time when the water is alittle warmer, we troll them for Ts when they are around, I will throw them at active calicos too...but right now not so much, that's probably why you don't hear much about it:reel:

I drag around a rapala cd-14 from time to time.

Ive trolled rapalas for thresher but you have a higher % chance to tail hook them then with live bait and circle hook. And tail hooked thresher are not fun from a kayak

Trolling plugs can work well at times. I've caught plenty of calicos, cuda, and bonito on them. I don't care too much for the multiple treble hooks on those things though. I've done well over the years trolling crocodile spoons as well. They're the go to in baja and they work north of the boarder. I also troll swim baits. They tend to move better at slower speeds and even when you stop of slow way down they are still fishing. I've caught 2 YT over the years trolling swim baits. Mike
