Me Cabrillo and Live Bait
I RARELY fish live bait and today just reminds me I need to do it a little more often was all thumbs today
Literally Started off the day at the bait barge and as we drifted away and the rods I took out of the flush holders to get bait in my lap started putting them back and my favorite Big Hammer let me know how it felt about live bait day http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...green/0013.jpg Thankfull I had company for the day (hoping to learn some thing from these 2) http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...green/0042.jpg Greg and James were life savers Greg with tools band aids and James for having the nerve to yank the line I tied around the hook on the lead head James was as surprised as I was at how easy it went and even today no pain. Same technique Ben used on me at La Jolla Thanks again. As for the fishing all I got were a couple of leg less lizards. Fished the channel light breakwater and then got lost man they filled the hell out of the whole area covering up kelp and drop offs. The wind started up pretty early then slowly wound down to nothing by 1:30. http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...green/0062.jpg Great day and will be doing again after the FH show. |

OOOFA
Never tried a thumb on a lead head.
That looked like it hurt just a bit. |
it was good times... minus the fish... :cheers1:
|
Wow. That is impressively deep in your thumb!
I just felt a tingle in my thumb just looking at it! |
Holy crap...no bueno:eek:
|
Yeah we went for the skunk paddle saturday too...nice to be out though:reel:

Uni Butter on Thumb is a deadly combination......work it slowly in the deep kelp!:D
Sorry to hear about your painful day. |
Needless to say, the first lesson he learned about bait fishing was that it no fun "being the bait". Slow was the word for the day. Got 1 Turd and 1 Butt, but the conditions were excellent after the morning breeze let up. All fish, except the Butt, were released unharmed ;).

Lucky someone knew to do the line trick on that embedded hook. Had to do it once and it worked like a charm.
|
Glad your ok Steve!
|
That looks really painful......

I think I saw the "hook line pull" steps/ procedure somewhere before.
Can someone recap the procedure for us or maybe provide a link? Thank you.:) |
Sorry to see that Steve. Looks like you've picked up some bad habits from George.

So how does the line pull proceedure work? I get hooks stuck in my fingers a lot, kind of clumsy that way, not bad so far but it could happen.

So anyone going to let any of us who don't know how to do this in the know?
