Dana point 3/24/12

Last minute trip found us in Dana at sunrise.
On the way to the receiver we got the chance to say hello to Buttchaser (John) and Bellcon. Nice.
We picked up one kayak scoop of the biggest sardines we've ever seen at the receiver. While awaiting high tide we tried the mouth with a few rakes along the way.
Right before high tide we hit the beach. We had rakes and short, and a few sharks during our time there. I was chatting with George (Jorluivil), when I finally latched onto this 26", 6lber. I must be getting bigger (in the wrong way), because the fish looks smaller:

From a monetary standpoint, $35 in gas, $13 for parking, $12 for bait (with tip), it's an expensive halibut. But, when you compare it to going to the movies for 2 people, it's not much more, what with popcorm, soda, tickets, etc.
So we're left with 3 more additional halibut dinners to the fresh one we had Saturday night, not bad, considering.
Maybe next time we get the big ones.
Here's a shot of the 3+lbs of nice halibut filets we've got to look forward to:

You need to hold the fish out away from you to make it look like Jorges fish...lol, nice DP butt, that pic of the meat makes me hungry...congrats on that, it has been a bit on the slow side for me:reel:can't wait to get back down to DP

:luxhello: Great catch!

I went out last week and hooked up, no shit: an 11inch sardine. I drug his ass around the harbor for about an hour. Reeled in the big guy, only to see his back half looked like he was put through the paper shreder.

Next time I get a big fugger, I'm going to stick him with a treble.

Nice butt.

Was talking to the fellow at the dana bait barge and learned the mega-dines are on their way out . . .and a new shipment of bait on its way in. Should be in on Weds.

Maybe a better mix on the way?

I was just at the costco over the weekend. Frozen Halibut is costing about $20 per pound (each steak individually sealed).

I think you got your money's worth. You didn't calculate the entertainment factor or the bragging rights your $60 bought you.

Note to self: tip the bait guy.
:cheers1:
