What setups for the Mothership trips

I'm scheduled to go on the Black Pearl in August. Right now I have:

1) Okuma Baidarka 7"6' MH w/ saltists 20 and 50# power pro

2) Okuma Baidarka 7"6' MH w/ Sealine 20 and 65# power pro

3) Okuma Baidarka 7"6' M w/ Ambassador 6500 and 65# power pro

4) saltist 30 w/ 65# power pro

I have a Diawa Saltiga boat rod that's 7" MH but not a big fan of it.
Question is what rod for the 30 and is there a setup that would work better? Will be trying to get Halibut and YT.

Thanks

Great question, I'm set up to go in September. I'll be poppin' my Mothership cherry.

Generally people keep soo many different set ups on board, you're going to get a lot of responses as to which to go with, but it comes down to what is in your budget and what works best for you.

I went with:

An 8ft jig stick and Avet SX for Surface Irons
6'6" Seek Black steel with penn 545 for Yoyo
7ft Shimano Calcutta rod with a Abu Alphamar 20 with 65lb braid for flyline
Lightweight abu rod with Toro 50 for Rock/bass/Sheep/Halibut

Ideally you want to have enough set ups that you're not constantly changing rigs, when the fish are working their way through you don't want to lose any time.

You should have at least
Surface iron stick
Flyline stick
yoyo stick

Some people use the flyline/yoyo stick interchangeably.

Good luck

for the sept trip I plan on bringing;
1 8 foot jig stick daiwa sealine 50# braid 300 yrds (surface)
1 7 foot casting abu revo inshore 50# braid 300 yrds (kelp cutter)
1 7 foot 700mh daiwa 2 speed 30 65# braid (yoyo)
1 spiderman or lighting Mc queen pole for the butts.

and either a saltist 40 level wind or 30 for fly lining.

All of these setups seem just fine, something I found on the M/S trip I took was that I did not have enough battery for bait tank and electronics, spent too much time on thinkin' tackle....just a thought...

Thanks for the replys so far. I'm going to get a 8-9ft rod for flyline/iron to use with saltist.

@ mtnbykr2 do they have a way to charge batteries or should I plan to just bring extras?

Any other recommendations for gear to bring

Yes and yes, bring extras if you got em, the state rooms have power too...

A surge protector type bar with 6 outlets works great. You can charge your ff battery, bait tank battery, camera battery, and vhf radio at the same time and only use one of the two outlets in the wall.

Thanks

Wel I went out on the July BLack Pearl trip and ended up taking 6 setups with me. Was glad I did!! Got to the dock Friday night loaded everything up and as we were on our way to get bait I was checking all my setups and the drag on my sealine was acting funny. As well while we were at Catilina Island Saturday my bass setup went down. (just got everything fixed yesterday)

I ended up taking all three listed above. Then I traded the saltist 30bg for a 30th and picked up a 8 1/2 ft jig stick. Also picked up a 8 ft shimano jig stick and put the sealine on it. Got a Diawa Seagate to replace the sealine. And finally added a spinning outfit to round it of.

So that's what I ended up taking out with me. I would recommend if you are going on one of these trips to take what you already have because in the end I really didn't use any of the new stuff I bought.

Just my .02 cents hope it helps.
