Cedar Plank cooking of fish
If you have never tried a cedar plank cooked fish you are missing out. I caught some cod and a Calico bass and brought them home for dinner. I soaked the fish in milk all day today, then rinsed them off with water. soaked the cedar plank in water for a couple of hours. Once the grill was hot I placed the plank on the grill to heat up. about 5 minutes later placed the fish on the plank. about 12 minutes on the grill and they were done. They have a very nice cedar smoked flavor.
I don't normally bring home Calico bass but after cooking it like that, I'll bring some home again. That was very nice. |
My daughter gave me some of the cedar planks for cooking for christmas I BBQ and smoke a lot of game so now you peaked my intrest on the plank, what else to you add on the plank I was told som oranges or lemons or even pineapple all sound great...

I have a chicken I need to cook so I may be grilling that up this evening. |
Cedar plank cooking is great. However, the planks you get at the store that is packaged for sale are expensive. Got to Lowes or home dept. and get a cedar fence board and just cut it yourself to the size you need. Just make sure you buy the un-treated boards and lightly sand them.

next time try some alder wood and / or pecan.
I place the lemon on the fish about 5 mins after I place it on the plank to cook |
Years ago I heard a long joke about cooking mackerel on a cedar plank that ended with eating the plank and throwing the mack away. I actually have a few cedar planks. I'll give em a try. Mike

I'm all for trying different types of planks for BBQing fish. I love the flavor that smoke gives the fish.
