Leash question

Should the leash hold the rods in tight to the rod holder or should it be loose so the rods breakaway in case of rollover?

Thanks,Finyak

they are usually about 3ft or more, coiled or bungie style so they extend to be used and contract so they're out of the way when the rod is in the holder. never unleash your rod, make it long enough so you can fish it.

I leave mine loose. That way if I roll in a shallow area theres a chance the pole will fall out of the holder and not break, otherwise if it's in the holder and makes contact, the 80lb yak will snap it for sure. They are always connected, even while fishing.

don't roll

i use to keep mine loose , until one of the pros tightened them up with a knot. the bad thing about having them loose is, in the event of a roll , you will have one hell of a cluster fudge with four rods flying out three or four feet, wrapping around in knots. and as far as on the water i keep them leashed down except the rod you are using and also your jig stick. when the time arises , you need to be able to grab jig stick and fire away without a leash hindering you or getting in the way. my reels are not cheap by any means, and the last thing i wan't to do is donate one, but having a leash on the rod you are using just gets in the way . just don't let a dog flip you , and don't drop reel or roll in open water. if you do rollout , don't let reel go.:p.

Live a little

Unleash ur rods when fishing!
Not sure bout ur actual q but seems like most leashes hav few feet.
In few times I've tested mine they did their job.
I think if they didn't hav nuf to come out I may hav snapped my rods.

My rods are leashed only during surf launches and rollovers, I mean landings...
