made me a gaff
Weaved this one up to replace the one I lost a few weeks ago. Hope I don't fumble this one into the drink this time. :p

Really like that handle weave. Great job
|
Nice work! You've got some skrill! :p add a key chain floater to the hand strap part and it won't go too far down the drink.(thinking out loud)
|
Very nice basket weave handle! They take for ever, I did a jig stick not to long ago with one and it probably took me close to 4 hours to weave.
Be sure to spray some spar urethane on the cord to seal it! |
well done, I appreciate the detail, make sure it floats before you take it out...
|
Wow! That is beautiful! :notworthy:
|
Thanks. It does float but more vertical with the hook down, at least that's what the old one did. Will definitely look for a floater to attach to the lanyard.

There's a tutorial buried in the BD rod building forum from the master himself, Steve "Rooster" Paterson of Rooster Custom Rods. I was fortunate enough to learn from him live in person. Hard to type it out and explain step by step (I'm not the best at it) so here's a couple more pics I took during the build. Once you figure it out it's fairly simple, just tedious. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps6ea0254f.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psf9940451.jpg Quote:

if your gaff is sealed on both ends it should float fine being bamboo, otherwise you could fill it with insulation foam that comes in a can. that way no water gets in it and it stays buoyant. |
Just beautiful weaving. Maybe too much so. I'd cry if I lost a gaff like that. Or just look forward to making another one. Mike

That looks awesome!
You should edit the title to, "Made me a bad-ass gaff". Just curious, what was the overall cost? |
Really nice gaff and the in-process pics explain it well. Fishinkid, those are nice rod pictures too. I have wrapped about 20 rods and done a few weaves (Raider Logo, Dodger Logo, and names). I have never done a cord wrap (seems easy enough) or a turks head. How is the turks head started and ended (any pictures?)

:cheers1:
