Easter weekend launch
The wave forecast looks like it'll be bigger than the last few days, but will the launch be affected?
thanks, Nate |
Probably, since it looks like a bit more W swell. It's been such a lake lately that even 1ft will seem huge.:D
|
Biggest worry about the launch will be not getting stuck. Seems like quicksand lately.:D Past 2 nights someone has gotten stuck while I was loading up.

Good point Corey. Don't be this guy....

"Wow! That sand looks really deep and soft. I thnk I'll try to drive through it in my 2wd luxury car." Doh!!!:D.
|
Yeah I've seen parked cars there the last few times I've been out.
I am a little more concerned with the waves because a friend will be borrowing my zodiac. I guess if he really wants to go out, he can always swim it out beyond the breakers. |
Nate, The pier is calling for 3-4 footers, so I'd guess the launch will probably not be bigger than 1-2 feet.

See above link. Based on the forecast of predominant swell of 6 feet at 7 seconds (short period = bad), I would say Saturday morning at LJ Shores coould be a pretty "wet" launch. As of now, its blowing 20-25 mph at Point Conception, and could bring the windswell up quickly by tomorrow AM. Go anyway. "Its just water" :) |
Good point Larry. The short interval days make it tough to get out dry. But it is just water.:D
|
yeah I'm not worried about a diver getting wet at the launch. I just don't want it to flip him. He dives from a kayak up in Norcal, but launching a zodiac is new to him.
So if you guys see my zodiac out there on Monday-Wed. it will be my buddy Harold AKA "Fuzz" on various fish and dive websites. Nate |
I came pretty close to getting stuck on my way out today. I had to back up to the harder sand so I could get some speed up, but I hit soft sand sooner than expected and barely made it through. Taking my car on the sand was a poor decision on my part.
As for the surf, it was kinda ugly when I launched at around 3:30 pm with some nasty sets, but when I landed around 7:30 there was almost no surf. -Patrick |
