Sunday morning at Newport
Launched at 7:00, tried the bay for an hour with no luck. paddled out to the channel buoy and sat for a little while, no luck there either.
Headed south about 400 yards and dropped a squid to the bottom,HOOK UP! Hooked a little sand bass. Dropped another squid and got another one on the fall. 5 minutes later, got another one. Back to back to back,5 in a row then nothing. Paddled over to the kelp at CDM with no results other than one big crab. Worked things over for about 4 hours and kept nothing. The ocean was a little rough with boat traffic and a consistent 3' swell from the west. If anyone knows who owns the boat named "California Style" Please tell them to kiss my ass! That rat bastard buzzed me a little close while he was at mid throttle and putting out a wake as big as the waves on Maui's north shore. I am really glad I saw it and was able to turn into it or I would have flipped for sure. |
Thanks for the report Tom. Good thing you paid attention and saw that wake coming. Those boat guys must never been on a yak so they wouldn't know how it would feel. Or maybe they just didn't care lol.
I had a bz week, but I will contact you when I have some free time and visit :) |
its always nice to be out there. and i never turn my back to any boat no matter what. i just assume all boats are out there to try to flip your kayak.

Thanks for the report. Cruddy morning tides for the harbor right now. Hopefully next week is better.
