fishing pants?

Not kayak related but I guess It can be. I never had a need for fancy fishing clothing but on my last 1.5 day conditions was pretty rough and my cargo pants were soaked. During the winter I would sometimes wear my old snowboard pants. But does get pretty hot even on cold days.... Any referrals for brand and model? Even non fishing brand is cool too. Thanks for the input in advance!

People will recommend waders or splash pants but they are usually expensive.

If all you want is to stay dry on top the yak then any cheap rain suit pants would work just fine. I think you can pick up one of those two piece PVC rain suits from Big5 for like $10 and just use the pants.

Whatever you get they have to be breathable or you will be hot, uncomfortable and soaked in sweat. I use a pair of lightweight hiking pants that have the zip-off legs so they convert to shorts. I don't ever zip them off because I prefer the sun protection, but it's nice having the option. The new lycra type materials used now are awesome as they are like wearing nothing, have a high SPF for sun protection and they dry super fast.

Second the zip offs for the bay. L J is always waders. I never wear shorts. The sun and I aren't on good enough terms for a full day if my legs being exposed.

Check out whitewater kayaking dry pants, and splash tops too. Google that and you will find many brands and qualities of waterproof clothing.

Kokatat is the best quality brand and the price reflects their clothes. Immersion Research (IR) is another very quality company, NRS company has turned themselves around and now make quality water clothes. Stohlquist is good, Palm makes good stuff.

There are many types and styles to choose from such as gortex, breath able materials, waterproof booties sewn in, rubber gaskets around ankles so you can go barefoot, bib style, etc.

Hope this helps. Good fishin'

Kokatat makes some pretty great stuff for us outdoorsmen. Give them a try? Their prices aren't quite the best but you get what you pay for and their customer service is good! Just ask Jorge
