For those that are going to jump on this don't forget that all you get for that price is exactly What's pictured, you still need your main line and buoy which is probably another $20.

I 'll add they are selling an additional kit also 20% off. But I'm trying to avoid it... I was going to use the Drake Puck and buy poly rope at home depot for 250 ft at $32 (for 3 nets that ought to work).

This site sells buoy's at the best price I've seen but I may try Fiskadoro's slim bullet float with light

Yeah there are better ways to do it.

Here's my basic hoop rope setup that I've been using for over a decade.

Here's some shots of the floats.

It looks really complicated but it's not. That's a standard white Promar egg float stuck in the end of some thin walled PVC the whole thing is filled with 2 part urethane foam and on the light end that's just a small plastic container that holds a LED.

Since those shots I've upgraded the nets and made my own conical netshttp://imageshack.us/scaled/landing/...erlights20.jpg

These have worked for me as floats for 3 seasons now, drop a glow stick in and it lights the whole thing up.

X2, going on 6 seasons for us, using this type of floating lighting system.

We use a cable tie from the jug to a plastic extension cord holder (wrap all excessive rope around it) but our original system of sliding buoys with reflective tape is between the jug/wrapped rope, and the net. It's probably overkill, we know, but we've never lost a net, yet, and that's counting the days following the Japan Tsunami, that sent major sea level changes over here. We're talking 5 foot depth changes in SD bay in less than 10 minutes. We nearly lost 2 nets that day as they were dragged about 50 yards for 1, and well over a 100 yards for the other, from where we left them. Without the overkill of jug & buoy, we're sure we'd have been out 2 nets that night. Many others were dragged from their original placements that night. If we were to pick one over the other, instead of doubling up, we'd chose the jug/glow stick combo, over the sliding buoy/reflective tape. Generally speaking the jugs are easier to locate, but on occasion when using a flashlight to find your net, that reflective tape can be very noticeable at a long distance.

Yea I do the whole sliding bullet buoy with light and reflective tape and my 220 lumen surefire makes that tape real easy to see at a distance.

If i was looking for sea lion repellent id bring out the good old .300 Win Mag. haha if only.... I stick to the good ol' painball gun I have the super cheap BIG5 gun W/ disposable CO2 container. Biodegradable and non toxic and in no way shape or form could injure the sea lion, Its just a nuisance to them and they leave ya alone after a couple shots in their general direction.

I have seen a bunch of guys that put the LED glow stick on the top of the bullet float and weight the bottom. I am thinking of trying that setup as they stand out better than in the jug.

Anyone have advise on setting this up correctly?:lobster:

easyday 09-17-2013 06:11 AM

Thats exactly how I have mine set up I use a bolt for the weight at the bottom and drill a hole for the stick it works really well

StinkyMatt 09-17-2013 05:30 PM

I heard rebar makes really good cheap weights. :D

Found a similar design on the site and began an inexpensive hoop-net rack using 1/2 PVC.

Raskal311 09-21-2013 06:41 AM
