SD Bay 15 NOV 2013
5 Attachment(s)
Well it was a windy cold day on the bay. I went out on my brother in laws boat. We had planned this weeks ago and wanted to hit up La Jolla. Well plans changed. The wind was coming from the south 10-15 mph+ cloudy and water was in the mid to lower 60's. We got bait which was a combo of sardines and macks 6-8". I only used the macks today. We decided to stay in the Bay since it was shitty out. We fished a couple of spot and I got one Hali that was about 18". We ended up south of the bridge at the flats. We made one drift with no action, then on the second drift I get hit. I can tell as I am cranking him up that he is a good size. When I see him, I yell get the gaff. I stuck the gaff in him and pulled him aboard. He ended up snapping the line while making a bloody mess of the deck. I was to lazy to remove the hook. It a personal best for me. He was 20.17 lbs and 38.75" long. I cant wait to catch one like this from the Yak....

Awesome, and congratulations on your PB. Not afraid of those teeth are you?
|
You say you caught him on mackerel. Looks more like you hooked it on a sculpin.
|
That's a beautiful fish, congrats on your PB! What setup were you using, if you don't mind me asking...

Nice PB. Way to make a day of the crappy weather.
