Tournaments

Kinda thought you guys and gals wanted more tournaments and get togethers. Well Neill has one coming up in TWO WEEKS. Now a one day event, what are we waiting for? If we want more tourneys then we have to support those being held. If we do not support those being held, WHY would anyone be willing to dedicate HUNDREDS of hours to set one up. If we do not USE THEM, WE will LOOSE them. So do you want more tournaments or not? The choice is YOURS!!!

Bass and Brew 2014 will be held in the fall.

sammysamsam 02-17-2014 01:27 PM

kayak only tourney or jetski also?

Siebler 02-17-2014 01:44 PM

We also have the May 3rd event at OEX MB plus Iceman and I are working on at least 2 more events. One larger LJ event sponsored by Wilderness Systems and others and one MBF style freshwater event.

Details to come soon.

Most are human powered, but if you need to borrow a kayak for an event someone usually pitches in. I keep a spare yak for such events that can be borrowed. AND OEX has rentals avaliable too. Patrick, I will make your Bass n Brew 2014!
CJ nice to here about your events coming up, I am in on the 3 May event. And Baja or Bust will be in San Quintin for the MONTH of JUNE with a month long halibut, sea bass, bay bass tournament. People if we support them, they keep coming, if not they seem to disapear.

I remember about a year ago I posted up about having more tournaments locally because a group that use to have them each month folded their doors and shut down doing so. I was then criticized because I posted that and I quote,"I've never enter or place in any of the tournaments." I may not have placed in any of the tournaments but I do enter them.

You want to know why people are not signing up for tourneys it's because off all the egos that people need to check at the door. I find the tournaments that are 1 day events are more enjoyable to enter and it gathers the group of us together to meet and fish together. Some may not do as well in them, but that doesn't mean they suck, O.K. well I suck at them, but I still enjoy them.

You want more people to join and enter your tourneys or derbys, stop with the name calling and the bashing as to why they are not signed up, or why they did not make it.

I'm glad that CJ and Andy are starting to get the tourney trail going again and can't wait to join in.

Just this would have been fine

I too also prefer the one day format where I can hang out with you all and put faces to handles, but I do also like the way Wade put together his long term tournaments, that way I can get out as much (or as little in my case) as I can and not have results dependant on a single days fishing.
There's alot to be said about the camaraderie of a one day tournament though...

I'm just glad there are a few die hard souls among us who have the patience and drive to put tournaments together.

I personally stopped fishing tournaments for a lot of the same reasons Jimmy mentioned. Egos do need to be checked at the door, especially when the event is a Benefit. Andy and I agreed that all tournaments we will do will be Benefit events in hopes that response from the community and the overall quality of the event will be better.

Personally without these events having a benefiting organization I would not put forth any effort to plan them because in the past we have been burned out on unappreciative folks and egos. At least the charities will appreciate our efforts if nobody else does is my feeling. Now I do hope I am wrong and you guys enjoy and embrace these events because there is a ton of work put into them and if we get a positive response I would love to have a Tournament Trail again next year.

Looks like MOST of our community WANT more Tournaments and get togethers. So the BWE community wins again. Pulling together, egos aside we can build any DREAM, and make them all happen. WE ALL WIN. Work hard, play hard, FISH HARDER!!!

Personally I love to fish in these tournaments. It forces me to fish in locations I would not normally go to or didn't know about. I fish the tournaments to learn from others and don't even worry about winning. It's not about winning, it's about meeting and getting together with like minder fisherman and learning from those with more experience than me.
That fact that the tournament proceeds goes to a charity is an added benefit.
Please keep up your efforts, they are greatly appreciated.

NINE DAYS and counting, time is running out, have you signed up? If you cannot fish, Drake needs volunteer help. Support our troops, and veterans.

If I could volunteer from the ski slopes of Utah I would.

Too many hobbies I'm afraid....

Kayak fishing is a way of life, not a hobby.

While I do apologize for being rather brash in my earlier response.,

..it came only after I noticed the same questions being asked about our local kayak fishing tournament /meet up scene, and I already had started a multi series of events with not much of interest..I don’t beat around the bush..I don’t mind of no one wants to show up or even donate..but to ask for food when a plate is in front of you is almost comical hence my rude response..
I understand the frustrations that probably Neil and many many others have faced and also know the feeling of needing those pre-registrations in ASAP!

Please support your fellow BWE members endeavors whenever you can..No matter how big or small it does makes a big difference in many peoples lives whether you can see from face value or not..I have had introductions to some of the most amazing people I have ever met in all of my travels strictly due to this “BWE” forum!:you_rock:

Well, let's see... There's the astronomy, skiing, scuba diving (dive master), four different versions of competition silhouette shooting, skeet and sporting clays (and all the casting and reloading that goes with all that), archery, photography cycling, aquaria and koi pond (wrote the Internet FAQ on raising Artemia), gardening, beekeeping, fly tying and then there's the touring and fishing kayaks....
Had to give up the Experimental Aircraft Association and the Mustang Club - I'll start on my 64 1/2 convertible someday...

I think the list would be shorter of what I'm not interested in - jumping out of airplanes and rock climbing. LOL...
