PL Kelp 6/20
2 Attachment(s)
Figured I'd finally find out for myself how launching at Orchard St. really is. Decided on taking the Mini-X so I could carry it down that long steep ramp and across the loose rock beach. Surf was really friendly today so no problems. I would recommend only launching on a day like today (less than three feet) for anyone who hasn't launched here before since the rocks give you that much more of a reason not to get dumped in the surf. Made my way down to the kelp for a few hours of pot-holing. Manged a nice size Calico and a small rockfish. I could hear tons of fish thumping their tails in the canopy all around me. Landing is pretty tricky at Orchard St.. It paid off to be patient and really get a good feel for the timing of the sets as I landed dry without having to school the surfers next to me and show them how it's done! (yeah right!)

Cool report and photos-
Those thumping tails of fish are feeding Calico's- Put a plastic bait any where near them-let it drop and get ready for the line to start peeling:) |
SWEET ALWAYS LOOKIN FOR DIFFER SPOTS THEN THE NORM:D

You might want to check out Bermuda St. also.
I live over on Santa Cruz Ave and have launched their quite a few times. Just be careful of the rocks on the right side of the beach. If it is really calm I prefer to got on the left side. I meant to say I launched at Bermuda St, not Santa Cruz Ave. They do have some steep stairs there, but I have carried a Malibu 2xl up them so its not that bad. |
Cool report.
Orchard is tough with a swell for sure. Mess up and you get dumped on the cobbles. Mess up bad and end up on the boulders . Really steep beach at Orchard too. You can't jump out too soon. |
