Sea Sickness Remedy

I have been reading recently about fellow kayakers having trouble with seasickness and want to offer up a cure I have been using and sharing with great success.

I am sure you all have heard that sailors back in the day used to use ginger to cure seasickness.

There are ginger pills on the market but by themselves they are too strong and make you burp. Which doesn't lead to a calm stomach.

I found that Nabisco Ginger Snap Cookies (it has to be the Nabisco brand as they use real ginger) calm your stomach and help to prevent seasickness. I have given them to people already sick and below deck on multi-day tuna trips and they make a full recovery. Any time I see a kid starting to turn green out come the cookies and they are fine.

Needless to say, I have made a lot of friends thanks to Nabisco. I use them to supplement the standard pills. They work for me, hopefully they will work for you too.

Great info. I use them ginger pills and it still makes me barf but I'm good after letting it out and continue to fish the whole day. I'll test out your nabisco ginger snaps and hope it works wonder for me. Thanks for sharing.

Bunch ah land lubbers, with yer sissy stomachs, haha. I'm just kidding. I don't usually get seasick unless it's a really rough day and I'm spending allot of time looking down at my fish finder. Anyways not often enough to remember to bring something on my yak to cure it, but when I go on party boats I'm a little more prone and usually take a little ziplock with some pieces of pickled ginger to munch on if the need arises. This sounds allot more convenient and I'll give it a try next time I do an over nighter

Great suggestion. Will bring some aboard next time. Hate seeing kids miss out on the action from being green.

So how long have you worked at Nabisco? jk Good suggestion I will give it a try. Thanks.

Thank you. The patch behind ear worked for me but it's expensive. Even with my insurance card I had to pay $60 for 8 patches. I'll try your suggestion next time.

That's a great idea in the bays and harbors. You haven't met the tax man yet...

Before you go searching for tons of methods that never end the routed cause, try fighting it in your head mentally. I did this when I was a teenager and haven't gotten sick since. Don't think about it = don't get sick (for me) and I know this works for others as well. Keep your optimism high and your mentality set on catching fish, and it could help you.

I take dramamine. But I'll try the Nabisco cookies because I hate the drowsiness....
By the way..... Nothing cures sea sickness faster than seeing your rod go bendo.

Thanks for the tip. :cheers1:

That was so disgusting it was hilarious! I like the female voice in the background that says, "you need to wait two hours" before smoking. Like she actually thinks she knows what she's talking about! So the moral of the story is if you are feeling sea sick watch this!

The thing about dramamine..... It's supposed to make you drowsy because it only works if you take it the night before. Take it get a good night sleep, wake up ready to go
