Its summer time.
 

I was thinking with our El Nino we should get some great fishing this summer. And with great fishing comes crowds, negative interactions, needless competition, and possibly dangerous situations.

I've noticed many new comers and beginners signing in to this board lately and wanted to post advice from more experienced yak fishers that may help new comers. Whether your new to yak fishing, new to angling, or new to ocean fish we can all use some tips on safety, etiquette, and fishing techniques.

I'll start with one I think should be obvious but apparently isn't.
Stay the hell away from the big sports boats. Sure they act like they own the ocean and you have as much right to fish any where they do. but still give em space. You don't need to fish their chum lines to catch fish and when surface fish are around you don't need to fish the structure they are on. Let them pull all the sea lions and clueless boaters to them as you fish in your own space.

Well, as to the sport boats, The New Seaforth always seems to seek me out and anchor right next to me. Last time they did it some of the guys on the boat were casting irons very close to me. I was there first, WTF. :eek:

Yep. I was there for one of those encounters! All that ocean and they want to anchor on our little plastic boats.

Dammit, I told my wife not to wear that outside.

One thing that really burns me is when a bunch of NEWBIE'S block the entrance to the launch in the morning.

You have to wait for the stupid clowns to unload all their gear while they chat to each other like a bunch of noisy seagulls.

Either drive on the sand and unload or pull back and unload to the side of the sidewalk.




this is the right way to unload if you do not want to drive on the sand.
