The word "epic"...

I have often heard the word "epic" used on this forum. I can now say with certainty, that I can use that word to describe my trip on the Vagabond. Six days of pure....unadulterated... EPIC... bliss....
http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...1&d=1412033308

I met these two girls, I am in the middle, who are as passionate about the sport as I am. And we kicked @$$! I can truly say, (it is true...) we outfished 95% of the guys!

At San Clemente Island, I caught 15 YFT...

15 big beautiful YT...

http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...1&d=1412033571

and one 2nd place jackpot winning halibut! 31.5#! My biggest California 'but yet!

Yes, it was Epic! I am saving now for next years spot! Many, many thanks to MOMOFish, for letting me use his two speeds. Made all the difference in the world. Next bucket list item, BAJA OR BUST, with Makobob!

Just an example of the YT fishing at Geronimo Island in Mexico... We anchored in one spot for 7 hours of non-stop, wide open YT in the 20 - 25# class. I have never experienced a bite like that. Go Vagabond Sportfishing!

Cheers!

Really? I'm looking at them now on this post. What did I do wrong? I am a nerd with this kind of thing...

Did you put them on Photobucket or similar and post the img links in the text?

I uploaded the link, opened it up, then copied and pasted into the narrative. I guess it didn't work huh?

Can you see this one?

momo fish 09-29-2014 04:12 PM

Nice! Glad you got to put them to use. Yellowtail are far better to stock freezer than tuna to me. Now you just need to figure out the 101 ways to cook them.

Btw the smoked wahoo was amazing!!!!! Thanks again

GregAndrew 09-29-2014 04:45 PM

Yep, we can see those.

jorluivil 09-29-2014 05:00 PM

I still can't see the pics, there must be a problem with the link you posted

Just kidding:D

janines.fishtales@cox.net 09-29-2014 05:35 PM

Ok. How about this?

WTG! Sounds like you have some great memories to cherish from that trip.

GregAndrew 09-29-2014 07:26 PM

Now it is Epic! Nice fish there.

When you boat that many fish, you can wear whatever you want.

If I ever land that many Tuna/Yellowtail in one trip, I plan to wear Hammer Pants from the 80's.

makobob 09-29-2014 09:44 PM

You rocked um Janine! 1st time I saw a Mermaid in boots though. YOU had a great trip, congrats! Baja is ready when you are.

carbonbass 09-29-2014 09:48 PM

how much does a trip like that run you?

FlyFishinYakr 09-30-2014 02:33 AM

:hello: Been waiting for you to get back and post! :toetap05:
PROPS to MOMO :you_rock: for lending you 2-speed reels to use.
Did you even use a single speed reel to catch a fish and experience the difference between a single vs. a 2-speed reel? What about the Spectra? Your thoughts/observations on both?
Looks like you made some 'Gal Pals' and had quite the haul! :luxhello:
15 :yt: @ Clemente! :cheers1:
I'm kind of wondering what the Cortez and Tanner Banks were like since you were close (relative) and any reports of 200#+BF Homeguards out there.
How did you Gals get 'em all home? Looks like a job for a stakebed or larger truck!
Nice to hear/see you gals ':embarassed:' most/some of the guys. :notworthy: :sifone:
I'm not trying to harsh your mellow but keep in mind this is an unusual El Niño year and it's not a typical El Niño. The 'Major' ones (this seems to be just shy of a Major) can last a couple/few years and 'can' extended a normal season into mid-November or further (very dependant on the length of the Hurricane season). I remember fishing/trolling "the channel" (Catalina) and hooking :linesnap: Albacore (from 25-60# anyone remember this? Graphite spools on Spinning reels and on Conventionals 'exploding' & 20-30# outfits being spooled! ) in December '83.
When the water cools down enough for the squid to return to spawn that will signal the end of the event. :(
Some :captain: I've talked to are telling me they haven't seen an El Niño like this in 20+ years or when I was decking on the boats up here in 30+ (the ones that have been around that long)! I'm waiting to see if the 25-40#+ albies () show up in mid-late October or if/whenever the water cools down to their comfort range 62-68 degrees)!
Looking forward to, patiently waiting for the Big Eye Tuna to show up within overnight range, praying for Albie's to show and more Dorado off kelp up to "the Horseshoe"!
You may have just experienced possibly a once/twice in a lifetime event! Some day in the future you'll be able to say "I was out there in '14 when...", then you pull out the CD or digital picture frame or picture.
Did you take any video?
Hopefully I'll receive the medical surgeries/treatments (or at least epidurals) needed to fix or at least relieve my back pain and spasms and get in on the fun by the end of the year (to fill my freezer)! :D
Then exercise during the winter to whip myself into good enough shape to get out on a 7-10 day 'skiff/kayak trip on "The Royal Star" or "Excel" next year (a little ambitious with surgery though), one of the Islander Kayak trips and of course at least one/or more trips with "MakoBob" on the spring "Baja or Bust" trips (maybe we'll meet on one of these trips) and still have time and ability for a few of my Fly Fishing excursions at the end of the year (fall). :D
This El Niño has motivated me into planning on reducing the pile of blanks sitting in a corner I bought but never finished and replacing the guides on all my rods that need replacing with SIC guides as most standard Perfection guides would get trashed like a "HOT Knife Thru Butter" by Power Pro with the exception of the new 'Slick 8' (which is useless in kelp)!
I'm very happy you got a chance to experience this EPIC event! :D
Speaking from experience I'll always treasure, be thankful for and never forget the '83-'84 season and the minor one in '91! :D
Congrats on the 2nd place JP and good eats. :drool5:
FFY :sifone:

Here is the best part of that question. My mom bought the trip for me at an auction for 500$. But it runs 1875$. I am saving now for next year!
