LJ 10/25

I got down to the launch at about 630 and it looked like everyone who owns a kayak was there. Ive never seen it so busy. I'm talking 10 trucks on the beach and more coming plus the early birds who were already out there. All those poor saps who actually think that there are fish in LJ don't have a clue. Those in the know know there aren't ever fish in LJ. :D
Anyway, my number one plan was to make bait for my lobster traps. I stayed around the kelp pulling in about 30 Spanish and 3 greenies for about an hour or so. My greenies started looking a little green so I wanted to atleast get them back in the water before they died. I paddled away from the kelp and into about 80ft before I dropped one down to the bottom. As soon as I felt my weight hit the sand my line started screaming. After 20 minutes of getting my but kicked and few jumps including one right next to me I grabbed the f#cker by its tail and gave it a slice. A fellow angler came by and offered to open my front hatch for me to stick the sharks head in so it wouldn't bite me. I said that sounds like a good plan. So with its head in the hatch and me sitting on its tail I head in making it an early day. Thanks Tanner for taking the picture. :cheers1: |
Why did you keep it? Of all the fish that are out there why would you keep this fish?
Once you answer those questions text me your address so that I can come pick up some fillets:D |

Nice Thresher Mike. it was good seeing you at the launch. It was kind off slow trying to make bait, even when they where jumping. Tried tossing an Iron but nada. After finally making 7 Spanish and no greenies I went out to deeper water and lost 3 to the damn seals. At 12:05 I get the clicker buzzing but not real fast and thought "another fricking seal" I grab the rod and engage the reel and finally it feels like the right kind. about 7 minutes late I get color and set the gaff. Nice to finally get one in after loosing so many. The one I lost last Saturday had to be almost 3 times the size based on power and the way it made my drag scream. Oh well 1 in the yak is better then 3 lost.

Wow, Nice Thresher there Mike!!! Impressive.
Enjoy the good eats. Nice Yellow Mark, Glad you picked one up through all them seals. I made a ton of greenbacks using cut bait .... Lost a few to the seals. My nephew got seasick so we had to go in early. Nice job guys. |

Lets not start this crap. Bro killed a shark. Sharks are fish. Legal to take and good eating. This is like guys that criticize and shame others for keeping calico bass. There's enough enviros attacking us. And that's not the anus. The anus is near the anal fins, oddly enough. Messing with a shark's head and trying to cut the gills can be dangerous. Severing the caudal vein is a better and safer way to bleed sharks. Mike

Cool fish Mike.. But something tells me you should have tried to stay out there ;)

Awesome fish. One of my favorite to eat.

I don't target sharks and have released them when caught. That does not mean I am against catching and eating them, like any other species. I do believe, If it doesn't eat seals then it can be on the menu.

Nice T. I saw the shark jump once. You were getting towed at a pretty good clip! :cheers1:

Uh oh...there goes your handwritten personal invite to Lake Irvine this season with the Sewer boys. I heard Tony's bringing two bugs per person this year. Damn we eat good on those get togethers. There's always next year pal. :the_finger: :reddy: Jim
