LJ Ocean Conditions Report 7.31.07
Launched to small surf around 5:30 am. Headed to pier for bait and was glad to see the usual suspects. No bait at pier so I paddled around for awhile and noticed the birds diving out due west. Headed in that direction and there was the bait, in 85' to 95' of water. Both green and spanish. Figured as much seeing how warm the water is getting lately. About 73 degrees on the inside, so I decided to go out and try to find a cooler thermocline. Fished most of the morning in 100' to 125' of water. Caught absolutly nothing! I have caught fish on the full moon cycle but not this time. :( The water is about 6 to 8 degrees warmer than last year at this time.

Bait was very hard to find at the pier... No more of those clouds of thick candy greeneies.
Water was greenish in color, and visibility is far worse than it used to be last week. I think we need to give it a couple of days to settle... Then it'll go ka boom again. :) Good seeing you Dave and all. |
Didn't see you out there this morning Lamb. I made bait real easy over the canyon in front of the round house. I had a mix of Spanish, Greens of many sizes and few sardines. Not that they did us any good.

Did the long hall today. Launched same time as Lamb.
Made easy spanich at the 2nd bouy. Went south on the inside. No problem dragging a fly line and a rapala as the kelp was laying deep with the southren current and south wind. After reaching Marine st I went outside to deep water. Heavy current heading uphill. Ended up way outside at blacks. Seen two good boils, only to turn out to be the small bonita. Back in at 3:30. Wind sucks. Even the seals weren't hungry. |
