What monofilament line do you use?

i have not read much discussion on fishing lines here. I spool most of my reels with braid and short top shot of flourocarbon and mono. I was wondering What monofilament/flouro do you use? I just use whatever I have at the time, mostly izor xxx or p line (and Seaguar flouro) I was told p line is less stretch than the izor xxx
What mono line has least stretch in your experience?
Thanks for sharing!

Izor XXX is by far my favorite. I have tried many different lines and this has always served me well.

I've been using P-Line CXX for a long time, but I also like Yozuri Hybrid.

I try to buy the 200 yards of 20-30 pound flouroclear. It's a blend of flouro and mono and works fine. And WAY cheaper. $20 for 200 yards vs 25 yards for 20-25$

Looks like most of us using either izor xxx or p line cxx
Of these two, which is less stretchy?
Anyone else using other brand?
And do most of you stick with clear mono?
Thanks again for sharing!

Check this stuff out. I like it better then regular flouro because it's a little softer and doesn't get really dry and stuff like the 100% flouro. And 300 yards of 30lb for $16? Way cheaper.

Thank you!
That's way cheap compare to Seaguar

So you all shop these lines from Amazon? :D

skrilla 01-07-2015 11:16 AM

I'm a Big Game and Ande guy for mono. Clear mostly and occasionally pink or green. Not concerned about stretch since were talking short leaders. I also like Izor XXX but have only used 40#.

Flouro I like Seaguar Blue label. I've also tried and had good luck with the Blackwater stuff this past season.

But basically whichever is in stock or on sale at the local tackle shop. :p

I was just giving you a reference. Usually around the same price in local tackle shop for the same stuff. But a lot of times they won't have the heavier LB Test of the flouroclear.

Yes I've noticed that. Nearest shop is turners and they really don't have much in stock
Thank you!

If you are doing braid with just a short mono or flouro topshot, a little stretch is actually ok because it will result in less pulled hooks. A nice parabolic rod will also help with this.

There are lots of other ways to save money while fishing, particularly on the kayak. Flouro is one thing I don't skimp on, particularly in instances where flouro matters. When it does mater, Seguar Premier for me. When dropper loop or yoyo fishing, any old line will work.

That makes sense. And those instances for me are Fly-lining a bait or slow trolling with no weight. The Flouro properties are much more valuable near the surface due to the sunlight.
