Do All Reel?
 

Ok, not that there's really such a thing but like most of you guys you've collected a lot of gear over years of fishing. The problem is that the stuff just keeps getting better! So with the Fred Hall show just around the corner I'm checking out a new set up; primarily a "one size fits all" that will work equally well for halibut, WSB, YT and schoolie Tuna to 40lbs whether soaking a mack or yo-yoing. I've been considering the Accurate FX 500 but was wondering if it was worth the extra $ to step up to the BX? Is it necessary...better...overkill? Other suggetions for fav reels? How about a quality rod to match? Thanks for the input!

My all around reel: Avet MXJ Raptor paired with a seeker hercules 7'0M. My go to for my yak for surface iron, yo-yo, and bait. Also on the cattle boats. It's overkill for a lot of what I do, but I'll never bring a knife to a gunfight!

Avet MXL paired w/ 8' Seeker Pinhead. I use it for everything. Good setup that won't brake the bank.

If you're a Shimano guy, they are releasing their new Torium March 1st. I'm sure they will have them spread out for you to check out at the Fred Hall show like they did the Curado's last year.

All around reel: flylining/ trolling a mac, yoyo, dropper loop... IMO, nothing beats a saltist. Get a BG35, fill it with 65# braid and it will serve you well.

Thanks guys, the one thing I dont lack is choices! No one commented on the Accurate; no one using them??

Not sure how small accurate reels are, but maybe overkill for kayak? Mxl and mxj, a true catch anything from kayak reel. Remember, part of your drag system on a kayak is the sled ride!!!

One size fits all? Talica 10ii; super small bit supper powerful.

All great reels these guys have posted and theres nothing wrong with the accurates on the yak either.. accurates are definitely top of the line reels and my buddy has two that he fishes everytime were out on the water, seen him put the wood to a 150+lb thresher with one of the smallest reels accurate makes this past august.. and you asked about the fx compared to the bx.. IMHO i would spend a little extra money on the BX just because the BX is actually a TWIN drag reel while the FX isn't, the fx is accurates "reel for the masses", its more affordable and doesn't have their patented twin drag built into that series, you can fish a smaller lighter reel in the bx and get the same if not more drag out of it, and I'm guessing since you want an accurate "little reels and big fish" is what youre after, so why not whack a homeward on a trout sized reel lol it definitely makes it a lot of fun-- 0000oooo000 kill em!

For the price of an accurate BX you could get 2 good outfits and not have a 1 size fits all. The accurate would be a great reel for sure but kayak fishing is often hard on reels with a higher chance of getting lost in the ocean than boat fishing. Just a thought. Mike

Great feedback guys and much appreciated; I was definitly going for small but mighty but it's looking like the Avet MX series and the Saltist need a closer look before committing.

Calcutta 400, have been using this reel for around 20 years, still conquers all.

I am getting all my gear ready, i went with a Revo Toro 60HS NACL and a Daiwa Luna 300

Quality reel at a reasonable price.

Saltist bg 35 is a great reel. Mine has caught threshers, tuna, wsb, hali, yt. from 10 lbs to 50 lbs. Its never had an issue and needs very little maintenance.
