quick boat yt trolling help

Hey guys. I need an answer quick cause I'm heading out in the morning and heading to turners now(they close at 8). I know this is mainly a kayak forum, but I hope for some advice about trolling from a boat.

What trolling lure should I use for trolling for yellowtail. And how fast should I drive with it behind the boat?

I used to slowtrolling live bait, but I like driving faster than that in order to be able to find fish on the meter and flyline for them.

Thanks.

If your looking for trolling for yellows primarily there are few caught on troll on sportys and kayak live bait is always the way to go but if you are cd-14 rapalas mackeral is good

7-9 knots or 8-9 mph... Black and purple cedar plugs work well. Also brown and white feathers

Thanks for the info guys. I tried the Rapala cd14 in green mac.

I prefer not to troll too much, but there's no good bait at the bait barge, and as everyone is aware, catching bait right now is tough. I spent 30 minutes working the sabiki yesterday and only drove away with 5 baitfish, none of them being macs.

Just FYI: If you have time before your next trip, check out eBay. Since Rapala discontinued the larger sizes I went on an auction spree bidding on every CD-18-22-24 that I came across, I bid on avg. about $18 each. From some sellers with more than 10 available I made offers for 5-10 at a time and got them for much cheaper (found one mid-west retailer with an overstock of 24's and bought 8 for about $14 each)! I have at least a dozen green Macs in each size now. I also managed to find a number (6?) of purple and black CD-24's for Tuna, Hoo's & Dodo's.
Just something to think about.
