Took the yak out on her maiden voyage
Packed it up and drove to Tidelands park and took her out on her maiden voyage. Paddled from there and worked my way towards Comic-Con. I practiced trying to get back in and worked up to flipping the kayak upside down and getting it upright after a flip. It took awhile but I got it down
Things I learned today: -Wear a rash guard (the nylon webbing to tighten the PFD caused some rashes on the side of my body.) -Rudders save ALOT of energy (the incoming tide+wind would've caused me to keep favoring one side of my paddle stroke therefore tiring me out.) -I need gloves (damn thumb blister...) -I take too damn long to load/unload the yak to get ready (I'll get it down eventually) Next up: load up my rod and catch some fish! http://i.imgur.com/beP2Ti3.jpg |
Nice craft, love the color pattern!
I am a serial offender of taking too long to prep and load my kayak... Just too much fun stuff I want to bring along! |
That is the way to do it. First get used to your yak and practice getting in and out in deeper water. Safety is first than comes the fun. Thanks for sharing that might save someone else from making a mistake.
