Good afternoon anglers, <O:p</O:p
<O:p></O:p>
This is an advance notice that NMFS will be issuing a final rule that will modify the existing Pacific bluefin tuna recreational fishing regulations.

The final rule reduces the daily bag limit from 10 fish per day to 2 fish per day in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) off California, and establishes filleting-at-sea requirements for any tuna species in the U.S. EEZ south of Point Conception, Santa Barbara County. These regulations are issued under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act.

The final rule will be published in the U.S. Federal Register on July 28, 2015, and will become effective (enforceable) on July 30, 2015.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife will be issuing conforming regulations covering state waters to ensure state and federal consistency.

The final rule and supporting documents will be posted on the NMFS West Coast Region Recreational Fisheries website (
here) when the rule publishes on July 28.

Regards,<O:p></O:p>

I would guess all the bft caught in a year by CA recreational anglers in the state waters and the EEZ is less than 1/3 of what a big seiner catches in a single set. Reduce the recreational catch limit by 80%? Way to face the issue of over fishing. Mike

x2 ^ They need to get rid of the seiner boats. Those are the real problem of over fishing.

One more example of our totally corrupt legal and governmental system. 100% sold out to businesses and corporate America. FU** lobbyists.

Agreed about the seiners and corruption, but how many BFT do you really need?
