Dana point 8/26
Went out about 4 miles and all around with my buddy on Wednesday. Found a few paddies, not much action. On the way back in, less than a half mile outside the harbor and in 50 ft of water I land this guy. My first yellow tail ever and from a kayak. Scale said 24 lbs but it felt heavier... :) He inhaled a mostly dead greenback. 65# braid to 40# mono leader on a 3/0 circle hook. Stoked :)

Congrats! Thanks for report and great pics. Definitely looks bigger than 24lb - get a friendlier scale!

Great catch and awesome plates
On the searing I cheat and use a torch. Wet down the cutting board you will be using anyways and hit the loin with the torch. The one I have is the orange one from harbor freight. Works great for creme brûlée and evening up the browning on a turkey too. Searing in a pan, for me at least, is too easy to overcook |
torch
X2 on the torch...

Hey ya that's a pretty cool idea I'll have to try the torch. I used to always over sear in a pan so I go really quick probably less than a minute for the whole filet. Torch sounds fun though :)
